Calling DocVol, Spring Bok Vol, and Skeeter!

both. we had major reservations and he was wanting in excess of 7 figures with no penalty if he left. never got close at all of being a consideration.

I've been in meetings all day and have not heard anything on those other positions. I would be surprised if an OL coach doesn't happen quickly once HH says he is gone. I would think Chaney / Dooley have checked those out.

He also wanted full contract pay if he were to be fired, even if he brought sanctions on the university at his own negligence and was released.

Several people here are saying Chaney might leave after NSD, what's the deal with that? More VN rumor BS?

I believe things like this in directly inverse proportion to the degree that negative commentators and posters want it to happen. It is very easy for something to go from "I wish" to "It will". There have been too many "definitive" predictions here to be any different.

its rumor but I would not be surprised to see it either. he gets calls frequently so one might entice him..

Which was it? Was Shannon not considered, or were negotiations not close? It seems you are saying both.
I don't think many people felt there would be contract issues with him. Different findings from the ncaa could cause an issue for RS in the future. Who knows.

contract negotiations take place way down the line. first thing you do is jsut find out, Are you interested? if yes, what is neighborhood of what you are looking for.

First off, CDD was not all that interested but UT did check on CRS interest. After response, I feel we just said no thanks and moved on. As best I can tell, there was no contact at all until post Orange Bowl. Had that game not went like it did, this would have ended before weekend. JMO

I don't call that negotiations but just guaging interest.

I understand. What that means is that if RS terms were met, he would be the DC. However, UT decided not to meet those terms.

Clarification...ban bet that Chaney is on the first train he can find leaving town? Interesting proposition.
I was just putting out feelers to see if there was any interest. Terms subject to negotiation.

Actually, I think he meant that if Clemson's D had not laid an egg then UT would have already had Steele. The Vols may have dodged a bullet.

I'm glad to hear he gets calls. I was starting to think I was alone in thinking he is not the problem. It's not like I blindly support any coach that comes along, but I think Chaney is pretty solid. He's certainly mastering the skill of figuring out how to use whomever he's got. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with talent, again.

Have to say that I agree. I think that the early part of the season showed what the offense was capable of when healthy. The middle and end of season's troubles were a product of the key injuries I think.
