I was thinking about this years game and I was wondering what think. Was last year a "perfect storm" type thing or are we really that much better? How does the game go down this year, is it another big orange beat down or a hard fought win? (some will even predict a loss, but not me). As much as I think that Phil is waaaaaaaay past his prime, I commend him for beating the teams he's supposed to beat, not doing that and losing to Bama is what got Johnny fired.

First of all, I'd say that we are better than Cal, but there's no denying that the combination of flying across the country with an inexperienced QB didn't help them last year at all. I doubt it will be quite as easy as last year, but once again we should be faster than they are and that's what seemed to give Cal the most problems. The speed of the game just seemed to overwhelm them.

We beat Cal, easliy. Our first team D will not allow a point.

As for your opinion of CPF being past his prime, I disagree to the point I find it laughable. Phil has assembled the best coaching staff he's had in eight years.

They are without their golden boy, Lynch. But I still think they will try to play us tough- having a chip on the shoulder from last year. It will be a tight game the first half. We'll outclass them in the 2nd.

we return all 3 of our WRs and our QB and most of our offensive line. You lose most of your secondary. We may not win, but we wont get shut out. That much I promise.

I think Majors was fired because he was sick( having heart surgery) and couldn't defend himself at the time( on operating table)when all the "sneaky talk" was coming to fruition.

As long as we don't kick the ball to Desean (sp?) Jackson, then I think we leave Cal with a W.

Not beating Bama cost Battle,your info from Bammers may be wrong UTV.
In all probablity he would have been fired but you know he would have gone down swinging had he not been recovering from heart surgery.Seems as though there was alot of talk about him maybe being AD at one time.

i'd imagine desean will not get anywhere close to equaling last years stats with 1 in 5 punt returns going for TDs. Tedford has vowed to get him the ball more this season on offense though.

I believe he did go down swinging but just at the wrong guy. And I don't argue that his record vs bama was an issue but not the main one. It looked bad but JM was not without fault.

I agree that Cal will not get shut out. But what I found interesting was that the TV announcers said Lynch was not fast enough to turn the corner on UT's LBs. The LBs will be even faster with Rico outside and Mayo in the middle.

Adding to that was Forsett had 1 yard rushing against UT last year. I don't see a blowout, but a 10 point victory against Cal is a reasonable prediction.

Apparently you haven't paid much attention to our kick and punt coverage.

well forsett had like 4 attempts. i'd say the run blocking was the problem last year. The run blocking should be significantly improved over last year, but I don't expect forsett or montgomery to have a huge game. The passing game has to be where it will happen.

you have a good punter. i'd imagine he would kick it out of bounds, though this will obviously result in better than average field position. desean doesn't return kicks.

There is a good chance that you guys will have a good game through the air. We will be starting 3 guys in the secondary with little or no experience at UT.

we also were 3rd in the country in sacks allowed last season, so nate should have better time to throw this time around.

you throw up a bunch of stats that came against mediocre comp, try bringing that weak o-line to the SEC week in and week out and i bet you dont end up 3rd.

maybe maybe not. Cal has a great recent history of developing NFL lineman. Our 05 team had 3 lineman drafted, two who are now starting in the nfl. Mack and Gibson were both all pac-10 selections. Mack is generally considered the best center in the pac-10 and he was only a sophmore.

Is Cal going to have the game at 8-9pm PST so they can get a time change advantage? On the secondary note, we look pretty good and it is not like we are starting 3 rookies. Wardlow, Gaines, Fellows all had time last season. They looked good in the spring game (not much merrit) and they have some speed just not much size. I think they will be ready but what will make them better is a good front 4 which we dont have. That has yet to be proven. They looked better in the spring but we know nothing until the season starts.
