Cal & Roy on way out ???

They won't replace him with some Goober who just fell off the turnip truck in Rainsville, Alabama
You never know. They replaced Tubby with Billy Gillispie.

The biggest knock on Cal (perhaps the only knock on him) is that he lays these eggs from time to time where his team won't even make the tournament. They are infrequent (twice in 12 years at UK), but noticeable.

However, when he makes the tournament, he basically never gets bounced early. He's only gotten bounced in the Round of 64 once, which was relatively early in his Memphis tenure. He's won at least one game in every tournament he's made at UK and made it at least to the Elite Eight 7 times in 9 tries. That's really damn good. I think the "Cal is so overrated" argument is overblown; there are many coaches that are way more overrated than he is.

Cal does a good job of understanding his limitations. When he recruited well, the quality of the talent could win the games. Cal is not a X and O’s strong bench coach, but he knows that.

When he has little talent, like this year, he’s going to struggle. Losing 6-8 games, by less than 5 points, is a sign of a weak bench coach.

Any coach, regardless of how good they are, is going to struggle if they have little talent. A college coach in any sport knows that the single-most important factor in their success or failure is recruiting, so college coaching ranks are dominated in large part by strong recruiters. Most of your Xs and Os savants are in the professional ranks.

Cal isn't a strong Xs and Os coach, but you can say that about most college basketball coaches, including really good college basketball coaches. I'm paraphrasing, but there's a Roy Williams quote where he said the reason he tries to recruit like he does is so he doesn't have to outcoach people.
