Cal Game Tailgating

I love anchor porter. The tour isn't that great really. It's worth going if you are big fan like i am, but it's pretty standard and there is nothing too exciting.

Oh yeah, the porter is excellent. I hope to see it around town on draft some.

I figured the beer tour is pretty standard; honestly, if you've tourned one brewery you've know what you're going to see. It's the same process I used on my stove back when I used to make beer, just 10,000 times bigger. I just wanted to make tour because, along with Sierra Nevada, Anchor is one of the two breweries that are most responsible for the outstanding American beer that's available now. The Yellow Beer Wasteland is all too fresh in my memory even now.

(This conversation has finally gotten to me to the point where I'm drinking a pint, by the way. I couldn't ignore the tap handle any longer.)

LOL, me too.:) Sadly, all I have in my fridge is a 40 of Budweiser and a 32 of Country Club… Times are tough… But that’s better than no beer at all! To be a true beer connoisseur, you need more spending cash, something I am sorely lacking. I have to invest most of my money in Bacardi Rum and JD.:hmm:

Spend less on ephemeral things. Like food.

True, fast food is such a huge waste of money! If only I could try to grocery shop!

when i am feeling overweight and am too lazy to cook, i buy frozen Healthy Choice meals. my ralphs has them for $2.50 a piece. even cheaper than fast food and at least you know exactly how many calories you are consuming.

Very true. A decent fast food meal costs about 8 bucks today.:bad:

if you guys are ever in nashville try Froogle McDoogles they have a huge beer store i use to work there it is a dream :toast:

I'm trying to keep this one alive until the game. I'd really like to meet up in Cali (if that wasn't obvious) :)

seems we could settle on a bar near the stadium to meet up pre-game. droski and teddy have already offered numerous suggestions and some of those bars have websites, if you care to check them out. as long as there are cold suds and a place for Vol fans, i'm game.

Actual tailgating berkeley is limited and frankly more of a pain than it is worth. if you have your heart set on it I can suggest a couple of places where you might be able to fire up a grill. if you mean good bars/food to do pregame (in berkeley):

Raliegh's - great atmosphere with large patio, pretty good food, pitchers of beer, student hangout
Bear's lair - on campus bar. good beer. lots of tvs. will be overflowing with people though.
Jupiter Brewery - good beer, good food, nice patio, bit of a hike (25 minutes) to the stadium
Blakes - Bar with tvs, decent food, student hangout
Henry's - closest bar to stadium, lots of tvs, good food, huge alumni hangout

I think that the Bear's lair, Raleigh's, and Henry's all sound like winners. I read that Raleighs had horrible service and that the food wasn't much better.

the food at ralieghs is pretty good and I have fairly high standards. During game days the service can be a little slow, but it's not horrible. The real problem is getting a table. YOu may have to stake one out.

The real quesiton is what are you looking for? Maybe you should rank the following for me:

a) food
b) beer selection
c) atmosphere
d) proximity to stadium
e) ability to watch the early games (i.e. lots of tvs)
f) crowd for gameday

edit: the food at henry's is pretty good, but that is THE hangout for cal alumni so i'm not sure it's what you are looking for. I've never eaten at the bears lair (since the new management took over, the food used to be horrible). Jupiter has great food and beer and will be less busy on gameday but is a bit of a walk to the stadium (it is right at the bart station though).

thanks.

i'm thinking the bears lair is your best bet then. get there EARLY though, it's packed. raleighs has a bunch of tvs inside and a few outside, but 80% of its seating is outside.

Bear's Lair Brewpub

Blakes might be a good bet too. Not sure how many tvs they have these days (teddy?), but at least you know you will get a table, have pretty good food, and decent prices. Close to the stadium too.

The one good thing about this country is the beer. Turns out, Belgium isn't allowed to make liquor, or anything over like 15% alcohol, so they turned to just making beer, and man did they did a good job. If there is going to be a volnation tailgate or whatever in Berkeley ill bring some of the good stuff. Already doing some searching for USAF_VOL :salute:

Some beer here tops out at 13%...stout stuff
