This question should probably be in the ticket forum, but I'm going to stick it here initially in the hope that Droski and other Cal fans will see it and share their thoughts.

We have a small group of 4 or 5 people headed out to California for, among other things, the game. We've all been out of school for a long time, so all efforts to secure tickets though what few contacts we have back in Knoxville have failed; ergo we're likely to be stuck looking for tickets on the street in Berkeley.

This is not ideal, but something I'm used to dealing with in the SEC, so no big deal. However, one of the guys in our group is basically a fussy old lady at heart, and the idea of flying out to California without a ticket in his hand apparently has him apoplectic. He wants us to go ahead and buy general admission, endzone tickets off StubHub for ~$85 apiece. This strikes me as a ridiculous idea. It sounds like deliberately deciding beforehand to get crappy seats for way too much money. The one benefit I could see to it is that would allow us for more time in the bar beforehand and less time outside the stadium trying to get tickets, but still. Eighty-five bucks for general admission?

Please confirm that this is an idiotic idea so I can tell my friend to stop whining about it. Thanks!

There is an outside chance that these tickets might be available to the general public for around $50 in early july. If not that means the season ticket holders bought extra tenn tickets, many probably to sell them. Long story short, i think these prices go down. Make sure to buy the GA tickets in the blue zone since those are next to the tenn section. BTW: the visiting section tickets (if you can get them through tenn) will be better than the GA tickets. edit: this will be a huge game for Cal fans and I'd imagine that scalping tickets outside the stadium will not be that easy.

Thanks much for the info. It sounds like the blue GA tickets aren't actually bad seats to get for us visitors, just that paying $85 for them this early is questionable. Maybe we'll wait two or three weeks to see what the prices do, and then grab some.

(I don't care THAT much about price; I'd rather spend a little more and get to spend an extra hour drinking beer beforehand.)

you could buy season tickets for $165 in the blue zone.

I'm sure you could easily sell the USC ticket for $80, and sell the other 4 games for at least $20.

No Cookies!

Those tickets aren't great (certainly the worst in the stadium), but memorial doesn't have many bad seats.

$165 for SEASON tickets? Wow wow.

Tell your friend to quit being a baby!

Yeah, I know. He's one of these guys who hyperventilates if he doesn't have everything planned out beforehand. He'd rather pay twice what he should on StubHub than walk up to the stadium to see see what he can find. I'm kind of in the middle of the road; I don't mind scalping, but I there are things I'd rather do than show up early and walk around haggling with people. (Read: ingesting ethyl alcohol.) If I have an opportunity to get tickets ahead of time, I'm usually willing to pay a little more to avoid having to deal with it on gameday.

well then I suggest you get tickets with actual seat numbers. just make sure they aren't in U-QQ since that includes the young alumni and student section and people generally sit wherever they want.

Best ticket scalp I ever accomplished was the 1993 Auburn-UGA game. I was walking accross the bridge to Sanford about 5 minutes into the first half and there were so many Aubie fans outside the gates trying to get in it was insane. A guy offered me $400 apiece for two tickets. My date and I watched the game at the Holiday Inn on the projection screen.

My friend (MrOrange) and I drove down to the 2001 SEC title game and got 2 tickets outside for like $80. We were happy with that.

I got a single to the 2002 Sugar Bowl (LSU vs. Illinois) for $30. Of course, this was outside the Dome, 5 minutes into the first half. :)

I felt a little guilty about it considering what happened to my Vols in Atlanta a month beforehand at the hands of those same Tigers, but it was a fun night.
