I wouldn't be getting giddy over that performance.Lets remember cal was breaking in new players on defense. They weren't that good either. This offense after what i saw last night will average around ten points against good sec defenses.Did anyone really think Tennessee looked that good on offense? Our running game wasn't special, and it seemed every single pass on offense was under 8 yards or incomplete... I'm amazed we got 31 points out of doing the same thing...
I'm sick and tired of losing in the last minutes, not winning inspite of scoring 31 points. How long will we endure seasons of losing to the LSU's, Florida's and other ranked teams while bragging about beating the Vanderbilts, Kentuckies of the world.
Good bye John C. it's been a good run. Now run away!
The only three players that came to play last night on Defense were Berry, Hef, and Mitchell. Now Mitchell is hurt and there is no telling how long he will be out. I am officially DONE with John Chavis. His defenses have consistently gotten worse since 98 and its time for a change. Look what happened when we got a new OC. Ainge played his heart out last night and if any of you try and blame him or his pinky then you didn't watch the same game I did last night. Same thing goes for Arian Foster. A lot of you were questioning him on KR, but I guarantee you were cheering on his 70 yard KR he had. Our offense will be JUST fine, but our defense is just plain bad and if we couldn't stop Cal's running game then we are up you know what creek without a paddle when we get into the SEC schedule.
You are so right.Lets go ahead and throw in ST,no vertical threat of a passing game. Also if colquitt doesn't get healthy. We will be giving everyone the ball on the fourty yard line. It's tough not to give up a lot of points when the other team's offense starts every drive at midfield. The points the offense gave away in the first quarter didn't help, either. Take away the O-Line's failure to pick up a blitzer on the first drive, we get 7 points. Take away horrible coverage on DeSean, we get 7 points. Take away the awesome field position Cal got on every drive, the Bears get a few less points. Give UT the points they should have been able to get when they had first and goal inside the five, and UT wins. There's more problems than just the defense.
I think Heffney played like crap.. He couldnt tackle anyone, neither could the LBs and did our dline make any stops or do anything positive last night? Our whole defense looked pathetic to me.
Did anyone else see when they scored on a run play, on the left side of the tv screen i think, when Rico decided to lay out a blocker instead of making the tackle?
1. The D-Line is horrible.
2. The tackling is suspect at best. I say suspect because Forsett is a really quick, smaller back.
3. There either isn't a receiving threat capible of making plays down field or there are some serious issues with Ainge's pinky.
4. Cal will not be the best defense the Big Orange face this year; not even close.
5. There have been some periodical play calling issues with Cut. Everyone knew when Ainge was lined up at WR what play was coming, on 3rd down at the goal line. Just not a good sequence of plays.
6. Chavis is going to have to start rushing some linebackers. There hasn't been a pass rush on the hill for a few years now and I don't know if this group of defensive linemen can improve quick enough or at all.
