I come in peace... greatly enjoyed the series the last few years with you guys. I was in Knoxville and managed to have a good time despite the beating in 06, and there wasn't much not to like last year :)

Anyway, I'm also a big college football bettor, and this Tennessee -7 @ UCLA line looks tempting.

Few questions:
1) What were your major losses to graduation? I was fairly familiar with your team having followed it the last few years. I know Ainge is gone, but most were high on Crompton last year so it doesn't appear that will be a major issue.

2) Does anyone know the same thing for UCLA? I know they lost one of their good corners, and they still have their two big DTs (Harwell and Price). Other than that, I can't really think of anything offhand.

3) Most importantly, do you guys know the details regarding the UCLA injuries (outside QB, I know Olsen and Cowan are out)? I know their OL is in shambles, but do you have the details about exactly how bad it is? Any injuries anywhere else?

4) Does Tennessee have any major injuries?

I asked the UCLA questions on their board, but haven't gotten an answer... was hard to phrase the question in a way that didn't suggest I thought they were going to get completely destroyed, which might be why. I figure a few hardcore UT fans might have the full scoop.

Anyway, thanks a ton and hope you send UCLA back to the dark ages on week 1 :D

There's a lot of info in here on both sides and I'm sure you will get some help in this thread. I just say, go ahead and load the wagon on the Vols....

UT is primarily healthy. Only major injury that could effect this game as of now is TE Jeff Cottam.

UT got a good bump with Brandon Warren today. He's a former Fr All-ACC performer at FSU.

UCLA's first two QB's are out. I think they lost a S to injury and maybe one to suspension too. Their OL is pretty much a shambles as you mentioned. According to cfbstats.com, they lost most of their statistical leaders on both sides of the ball.

Warren is a former Freshman All-American.

UCLA has also lost one of their RB's

Well, I have been looking (didn't just come here first). I can't find a convenient, up-to-date injury report for UCLA though on the major sites, and like I said, UCLA's forum didn't exactly jump at the chance to give me information.

As far as their OL, i seem to remember them losing 3 guys to graduation and then at least ac ouple more to injury. Cbssportsline confirmed that they only return a guard and a center (who is being converted to guard, according to their site), but only lists one starter injured and lost for the year (Sheller). Are there any others? If not, perhaps it isn't quite as bad as I thought (though still clearly not good).

Warren going to start? I know Berry is primed for a huge year, he looked like a monster when I saw him. Didn't you guys lose some studs in the front 7? Mitchell, Mayo, McCoy are the LBs I remember but they all seemed kinda older, 90% Mayo is in the NFL, dunno about the others.

I do remember you having a pretty good class of wideouts last year which should improve quite a bit since Rogers, Taylor and Briscoe (was that the three? its eben a while) graduated. Vinson was converted to a DB IIRC, but Paige and Jones I'm assuming are in line for starting spots?

Is Foster gone? Im assuming if so Hardesty and Coker are still looking solid behind him? And all is okay with Crompton?

Just want to amke sure its a sound investment before I drop the biggets bet in my life :)

no Foster is still here and if he stays healthy i think he will be 1200-1500 yard back plus Hardesty and L.Creer. The WR core should be great and the secondary should be 2nd to nobody

well we have 9 returning starters on offense with crompton and warren replacing the two starters. we also get back every reciever and running back from last yr team

the defence returns 6 starters but we are better off with are 2 new d ends and we still have mckoy and we get 5 star safety d morley back from suspension and we have 6 guys who have started at ut at cb to fill 2 spots.

we r loaded on offense and defense and r going to pummel ucla so i would lay down some money on a 7 point spread

With the debut of the new offense, -7 is a gimmie. The O line will make that. I would take that bet.

cal fan..If I was that clueless about a team, I'm not sure I'd be putting money on any game in which that team was playing. However, I must admit that I admire your diligence.

Well, the past two offseasons I was followed the Vols pretty intimately since they were our opening opponent both years. I also enjoyed the series so much that I have casually followed the Vols since then (watched your bowl game from Scotland, as a matter of fact). In fact, I'd be willing to bet I knew the Vols better than most average Vol fans (not the average poster here, mind you). All the names I did remember above were just off memory... not bad I think.

I just hadn't kept up with who had gone to the NFL for the most part and obviously things like Coker's dismissal. Needed a tuneup.

Thanks for all the insight, anything is appreciated. This ankle isn't likely to keep Crompton down right? Has crompton looked generally good in the practices etc?

I'm also not clueless about UCLA, if thats what you were getting at :) Not completely up to speed, but not clueless. This looks like a major mismatch and generally I like getting in on week 1 betting... usually the books don't have the teams completely nailed down and you can spot a few lines that are way off. I think this might be one. UCLA could be worse than ND was last year, and Tennessee could challenge in the SEC East (probably won't win it, but its possible). I've made a lot of money the last two years on the first weekend, hoping to repeat this year :)

Again, thanks all

Sounds like you already know more about UT than half of the Vol fans out there.
