I'm getting ready to move and I'm trying to figure out the best cable / internet option. I will be living in Indiana for 2 to 3 years, but I still want the best option to watch Tennessee games. I've looked over the usual (Comcast, DirecTV and Dish Network). Looks like Direct and Dish both offer the Fox Sports South channel that shows so many UT basketball games. Dish Netword looks like it has a great sports package.

However, I also need the fastest internet possible. What kind of combinations do some of you use? I was wondering if I could get Dish Network for TV and Comcast for internet?

I'm just curious about everyone's opinion on this.

fios is great (and my internet is very fast) but it's not available in very many places yet. Another thing to check is whether they offer espn360 or not. I've watched a bunch of games on there when I couldn't get them on tv (football and bball)

I currently have FIOS and I'm not really that impressed with it. I had Sprint DSL before and I honestly can't really tell much of a difference in internet speed. As for the cable, it's worse in my opinion. I hated Comcast and was glad to have another option, but the HD on Fiber Optic is not even close to being what Comcast's was.

I will check on ATT UVerse..

Yeah good idea on the ESPN360.

I'm not seeing Fox Sports South as definite on Uverse, but Uverse is available in my area.

Comcast might be the best option. They've already started rolling out DOCSIS 3 in some larger areas and I think they'll have it available to all service areas within a year (friend of mine is in a comcast NOC).

You can save some good money if you bundle.

Beware OWB. You are more likely to get Fox South on Dish. Comcast is more likely to black out anything out of the region. I have dish, and the UT game was actually on an alternate channel that wouldn't have been available through local cable.

If you have issues with the fios HD, please take my uverse recommendation with a grain of salt.

Uverse was my first HD experience and in this case, ignorance may be bliss.

Lex, have you ever had reception problems from weather or trees with you Dish? What do you use for internet?

Well, it could also depend on the service provider. I use BVU right now and they're fairly new. I would imagine that AT&T is a better product.

Yeah, Comcast would most likely be the easiest. They just never carry the Fox Sports South channel (at least in Virginia they don't)

i love my direct tv.

i pay $50 a month for the ultra fast cabel modem internet.
Do you ever have reception problems because of weather and such?

I'm actually on a DSL from Windstream. Don't like it as well, but it isn't all that bad. I don't do a lot of downloading.

No real problems with weather. I can think of two times in the two years that I've had the service, and it was raining cats and dogs when it happened.

I just know that the Fox sports networks are blacked out when you live outside the region. Especially during baseball season. I get stuck with Fox Sports Ohio. Whereas, with the dish, I can almost always find what I'm looking for on an alternate sports channel. It doesn't say Fox Sports South...just "alternate". It wouldn't be otherwise available with local cable.

Same here, on both. It's affordable and the HD package is nice. Never had a problem with internet service.

OWB, I do have some issues with weather. It is pretty rare, but it does happen to me.

I suspect this may not be an issue for Droski if he lives in the So. Cal region.

i love directv. in the 5 years or so i have had it, i can count on 2 hands the times it has went out with 30 min being the longest it was down. it is by far better than dish or cable IMO.

not once and i've been a customer for 10 years. but as pointed out i live in so cal and we don't exactly get bad weather (or at least no snow). just make sure it is unobstructed (roof is best) and bolted into something. don't let them set up a stand in your back yard or something.

This has been my experience with DirectTV. It will be out for 5-10 minutes during an especially heavy downpour, otherwise, never.

I was in the same boat until my the neighbors trees killed my satellite view. You can't beat your Cable company for internet speed, but , sky permitting, the dish is your best bet for both channel selection and price. My DSL experience with AT&T was awful, but i also hear lots of good things.

OWB stay FAR away from satellite internet unless it's your last option other than dial-up..It has usage caps and once you go over the cap they throttle your speed. You also have bad latency problems that you can do nothing about.Remember the signal is being sent into space and then being sent back...nothing can speed that up.It's also more expensive than cable, and slower.

Check out this forum All Forums - dslreports.com they have some good information on uverse,fios,dsl,3G,cable,and satellite interernet. Most of the mid-west and South East satellite internet is wildblue,or hughesNet.

I had problems in the beginning with AT&T (Bellsouth) when I first got it. Usually when the speeds are bad it's a modem problem,or you're too far from the DSLAM box. Another thing that I did that helped was I removed all of their software from my computer and just ran it without it. Their software is crap, and the only time you really need it is updating the firmware on the modem, bridging the modem,or doing PPPOE.

Good info, thanks. Although I have to admit, I like the idea of my downloaded adult videos going to space first. I kid I kid.....maybe.
