I don't have a dog in the fight, but BYU finally got some momentum and they went for 2 like Palardy was the kicker. They hadn't moved the ball all night. Bad call IMO. I would have played for OT the way the BYU D was playing.
I saw almost none of the game, but if you haven't moved the ball all night, and you're on the road against a supposedly superior team, and you have a 50/50 chance to win on one play, then maybe it's not a bad gamble to go for it while you've got the chance.
Much of Chris Petersen's reputation is thanks to going for two on a similar play and having it work out for him. Two point conversions are pretty close to a coin flip.
I think you nailed why that call was made there. I think Bronco thought his freshman QB had enough Mo Jo going for him to get it done. The kid is going to be good. I was for BSU, so it worked for me.
They had just drove 90 something yards to score. They had the momentum. Boise's offense was garbage. Kick the ball & keep playing with a chance. Force Boise to do something or make a mistake but don't give it away.
