well, VN is always going to bit$$ about it, it being whatever the flavor of the day is

As far as Byrd is concerned, there's not enough quality depth at WR to make the move now. Not that there's any at Cb either, but there's no sense in robbing peter to pay paul atp. I'm not saying it won't happen, but unless he starts getting outperformed consistently by some newcomers/up-and-comers, he stays at WR for now, imo.

IMO hes gotta stay at WR especially if JG gets named the starter..

He's gotta stay at WR. We're incredibly thin there with regards to experience and the kid is an explosive playmaker. Got way more bodies at DB, some talented kids, just need to coach em up and get em performing up to standards.

I say do it. Jennings is good enough to be a #1 WR, Josh Smith is a perfectly serviceable #2, and somebody else from the group of Brandon Johnson, Marquez Callaway, Latrell Williams, and/or one of the incoming freshmen can step up to fill Byrd's void on offense. We should be running more anyway, with a new QB and a better offensive line.

Byrd has a much higher ceiling at CB in both the short- and long-term, and if last year was any indication our defense needs much more help than our offense.

We might be getting graduate transfer Shaq Wiggins, who has plenty of experience in the SEC and ACC. Its far from a done deal considering his old coach is at Miss St, but would be a huge pickup at an area of need.

Can't follow this line of thinking. Play them at their best position or you're coaching scared...and that backfires on you. This is with the caveat that I don't KNOW the answer to which is the better fit. If his ceiling at WR is higher, THEN it's the correct choice. As of now, he's not indispensable like Jennings...everything is potential. JMO.

Or, play them where they're most needed to help their team, a la Carl Pickens back in the day. What you call "coaching scared", I call coaching pragmatically.

Also, I saw tremendous burst, talent and potential from Byrd last year at wideout, we've not seen him at all play DB at the collegiate level....perhaps Butch and Shoop think he's a better WR now than he might be as a corner down the road?
