Scott on Friday recalled watching Byrd early in his career at Naples High School.

"You didn't have to watch it very long to figure out that he was one of the most talented guys in southwest Florida at that time, even as a young kid," Scott said. "Then as you got in the position where you, by the rules, got the chance to get to know the kid through phone conversations and those types of things, you find out that he was a really good person.

"He's got this smile as big as the day is long. He's 'Yes, sir; no, sir. How can I do things better, and how can I get it right?' You went through his school and you couldn't find one person that would say one negative thing about the kid. They all loved him. He's got a magnetic personality.

"He has all of the things that off the field lead to him being the type of player that he is on the field. Then it's just his natural talent level and how hard he actually works at it, because of his character. It stuck out, and that's why a lot of work went into recruiting that kid for three years."

Definitely a good get. Just love the fact he can sprint down a 25 mph road and dang near be breaking the speed limit.

It's apparent that we have to get Byrd on the field..but whose snaps does he take? Josh Smith?

I said he could be Dez Bryant at WR and Patrick Peterson at CB and it wasn't hyperbole.

This kid is gonna be special.

Good players. Great players.

But imo hes actually more talented than both. They're all around the same body dimension but Byrd is faster than Bryant and more agile than Peterson.

Bryant and him would be stretch comparison. We haven't seen Byrd play yet so you and I can't make that assumption but Bryant is much bigger. People look at Bryant now and think wow, he's so dominate but he was incredible in college. I'm not sure if you remember but he was in legit Heisman contention until his suspension.

I'm just ready to see some production from our receivers. I know this goes back to better pass protection and more consistent accuracy in the passing game as well, but we cannot be 1 dimensional and go where this team is capable of going.

It comes down to whose hands do you want the ball in. My top two guys are PWilly and TByrd. If they have over half the catches I think our passing game would be successful. After them I think it's Josh Smith and Malone. Then Jennings and George. We have some talented young guys too in Callaway, Brandon Johnson, and Latrell Williams.

I think the benefits of establishing a no-doubt #1 and #2 receiver are that it makes the defense prepare for them and apply tighter coverage on those guys. If we do that then our run game will only get better and it will drive opposing coaches crazy thinking about how to stop us.

You also said Alex Johnson was here to play football and not be a model citizen (as I recall), which essentially is to say the same about all the players, which seems to contradict the intentions of this story / these coaches who want these players to be here for both.

Am I missing something?

Williams was a guy I was excited about is he hurt? haven't heard the first word about him this fall

You are exactly right.

We haven't begun to see how good our offense can be. Preston and Josh Malone will strecth the field.

Byrd will do a little of everything.

Byrd would be the field stretcher. Josh Malone has had a few years to establish that role and hasn't done well. Would like to see him turn into a Gerald Jones, move the chains type.

I heard from some other thread that he was recovering from a pulled hamstring. Those can be really naggy, so he may end up redshirting if he doesn't get healthy in a hurry. Wouldn't be a bad thing I suppose though I was excited about his speed.

I believe he will be special too, but he hasn't played a down yet and you already have him ahead of Smith and Malone! Don't you think we could wait a while before we put that on him..

Anytime a new player comes along, some are awfully willing to cast our already established players aside! Malone at the end last year was playing very good and Josh is one of our most consistent we've seen. Why can't we just put Byrd in rotation and see how it goes before we put all that pressure on him.. JMO
