Is it possible to get a little more strategic with our bye week? Seems like most other teams have theirs before a big game to allow their team to heal from previous weeks. Ours is before the easiest stretch on our schedule. Would it make more sense to have it in the middle of our yearly October gauntlet so half of our players aren't dead by the end of it? A few examples..

Georgia bye before Florida
Florida bye before Georgia
LSU bye before Alabama
Alabama bye before LSU
A&M bye before Alabama
Ark bye before Florida

After watching Sankey's handling of the florida/LSU debacle, we should just tell the Conference Office when we want our bye week.

A couple of years ago everyone had their bye week right before playing Bama. SEC/Saban thought that was suspect and now they've worked it into different places in the schedule.

Well no one's beating 'em any other way...

Guess that randomly worked out well for Saban getting to keep their bye before LSU lol

I agree it would be better before a different game.

On another note, the bye week gives us fans a chance to rest our hearts a little bit too, so we don't all have coronaries! What's everyone doing for the bye week? I'm heading to Nashville to drink a few without having to worry about a 21 point comeback!

I don't have a super strong opinion here. I never liked really early byes before Florida, because then you finish with 10 in a row. However, if the 1st Sat in Oct is the 1st of Oct, then i wouldn't mind altering tradition slightly to have a bye after 3 tough conference games before Bama, making Bama the 4th Sat in Oct.

Doesn't the conference tell us when we will play the conference games? That would impact bye week selection.

Does the conference actually dictate which week is an official bye week?

I thought the conference just set the conf schedule, and then the teams scheduled their OOC games.

Alabama and Auburn have an "unofficial bye week" by playing FCS teams the week before the Iron Bowl.

newflash....MOST teams have an "unofficial bye week" that week in the SEC. Florida had Presbyterian, LSU had South Alabama, UGA has LA-Lafayette, etc. This is usually the case for this week.

Never understood why we did not schedule our FCS opponent for the Ohio weekend. Hindsight is 20/20 but we lost Sutton, Maybin and Sapp that game (with Maybin and Sapp injuries occurring on special teams). While we should not have needed to play the starters for four quarters and special teams to beat Ohio, it would have been nice to have been able to rest players for that week before heading into SEC play.

We're being disrespected by the oddsmakers. We're underdogs by ten points. To add insult to injuries, they didn't even list our opponent and just wrote "Bye" there to us so you know they hate us.

Sorry if this is off topic a tad from the OP, but do the coaches use this week to evaluate any players that haven't had many, if any, reps yet, or just go along with a modified schedule of a regular non-bye week?

I would think that given the injury situation, some kids would get some looks as far as special teams in order to keep starters from the wear and tear.

Probably drop another 9 spots in the rankings too, which will make us fall from the top 25.
