Bye Week Question - Favorite Non-Household name Vol of all time?

Bill Duff...stopped Eddie George cold as Vols beat Ohio State in 1996 Citrus Bowl. He later became an expert in Korean Street Fighting, known as the "Human Weapon."
Shane Burton, who was the guy who blew up this play to begin with. Duff wouldn't have made the play if it weren't for Burton. He absolutely destroyed the guard on the play. 10-year NFL career and stood at 6'6 305 in the league. We took guys like that for granted back then.

It was, indeed, a team effort.

  • I speak a little jive. Let me give it a try.

  • A household name is a term used to describe someone or something that is widely known and recognized by a large portion of the population. In contrast, a non-household name refers to someone or something that is not widely recognized or known beyond a smaller, more specific group.

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    Household Name:
    Definition:
A household name is a person, brand, or product that is familiar to a broad audience, often including a significant portion of the general public.
    • Examples:
Celebrities like Taylor Swift, sports stars like LeBron James, and brands like McDonald's are often considered household names.

    • Characteristics:
They are often associated with high levels of public awareness, recognition, and popularity.
    Non-Household Name:
    • Definition:
A non-household name refers to someone or something that is not widely known outside of a specific context or community.
    • Examples:
An individual who is only known within a local community or a company that primarily serves a niche market could be considered a non-household name.
    • Characteristics:
They may have limited public awareness, recognition, or popularity beyond a specific group or geographical area.
In essence, the key difference lies in the breadth of recognition and familiarity. A household name is a name that resonates with a wide range of people, while a non-household name is more limited in its reach and scope.

You had to resort to the internet for that? I think we all understand what a "household name" represents. Sheez.

You would be surprised how many folks outside of the Volnation do not know the name Peerless Price.

I think it's because his NFL career wasn't as spectacular as his college days and he was overshadowed a lot by other players at that time too.

Who is your favorite Vol that anyone outside of Tennessee fandom would likely not know who they were?

Mine? easy…Raynoch Thompson. That guy seemed to be just everywhere while in orange and his name is probably what has stuck with me the most for some reason. Didn’t work out for him the pros too well but he was a great college player for us.
Dontavis Sapp

Since no one has mentioned him, I’ll go with Chris White. Came out of nowhere as a fifth year senior to lead the country in interceptions and be voted All-American. Then slipped right back into obscurity. Bradley-Central product.

Will Brooks is good one too. I think someone already mentioned Tony Thompson. He had a Dylan Sampson type senior year, but rarely gets mentioned.
