Bye Fulmer

It's all about the conference games...I will withhold freaking out until either

1)A USM loss which means BAD NEWS

or

2) A Florida loss which probably means at best a 3rd place finish in the east..at best

But .... like I said... my goals lie in the conference, so while not happy tonight...I am waiting to see

same here. It was a bad loss out of conference. But it was on opening week and won't affect our conference ranking.

After living through the 70s and 80s as a die hard Vol, my opinion is that Philip Fulmer deserves several years at the current rate. Fulmer helped take the Vols up a notch and everyone here knows that. Right now were back to where Johnny had us in the 80s. I'll take my odds with PF versus the odds of staff upheaval.

It's one game. If we win the next 2, then the entire
"knee jerk" attitude will change here. If the two big turnaround plays in this game have went for us, then we enjoy a 10-17pt victory, and this site is filled with SEC title & bring on FL talk. Geeesh, it's one game against a good team that made hardly any mistakes. Give it at least 1/2 a season before pronouncing judgment.

The PF staffs are still recruiting strong classes from a weak recruiting state. I have a lot of doubts about the next regime' being able to do that as well. Knoxville aint south Florida or Louisiana.

My vote is a significant more "grace" for a head coach who has taken us to an undefeated national championship in the past decade.

fulmers winning days were because of two people, peyton manning and rodney garner. since they and the players garner recruited have been gone we have been mediocre.

when johnny was fired we had won 2 out of 3 sec championships. i would not say we are back to where johnny had us. it took johnny about 12 years but his later years were very successful.

I was on the fence. I'm done with him now. His best days are past him. Cutcliffe, Chavis get them all out.

New Regime. Younger more innovative and motivational coaches.

Lotta negative talk this morning.

Lou Holtz must have giggled himself to sleep last night.

I read through most of the post-game posts, and picked this thread, and this post, to attach to. Not that I was ever on the fence about this coaching staff, but this just seemed like a good place to stop and say my piece.

So here goes.....

It's time for this coaching staff, all of them, to go. Like most of you, I gobbled up every word that came out of their mouths this fall. "We're faster, tougher, stronger, more motivated, focused, etc, etc."

Sorry, hoss. This is the same UT squad we've been watching for the last four, five, or nine years. Only the names have changed. Even the excuses are the same, from year to year. We might slip up and beat a Florida, or an LSU, or a Miami here and there, but you can just about bet on an equal number of losses that should have been wins. Toss in a couple of SEC CG losses, and a bowl record that's starting to resemble Vandy's average regular season record. That's just how it is.

I love my Vols. I always will.

I've just learned to expect less.

And wait patiently for that "fire in his eyes" head coach to come in and turn this thing around.

go vols.

Fulmer punts imagine that on 4th down when the team is down 14 at the 20 why not go for it, but he punts come on just show your team that u gave up, brilliant coaching, oh by the way it was 1min 20 left but why not go for it geeze.

This was the state of UT football in a nutshell - down 14 staring fourth and long in your own territory -

Why not just take the headset off and yell down the sideline to John - "I DONT TRUST YOU AND YOUR CHUMPS!!!!"

How pathetic.:good!:

I cant stand people who bash Fulmer. I mean the guy brought us a National Championship for the first time since 1948.

Who are we gonna get to replace him Bill Cowher????

He has had one losing season in 14 or 15 years and I know we are in the top 5 in wins in that span.

Tennessee fans are starting to be worse than kentucky basketball fans

So, you're satisfied with the kind of football you saw from us last night?

the National Championship was in 1998

if the program is going in the wrong direction, we need a new coach...we don't owe him sh** for winning in 98...that was then, this is now

Fulmer is a fine coach.... for another team. I love the man dearly. He did for UT Football last decade what hadn't happened for decades. I have jumped to his protection him over and over and over again on here saying give him the chance to coach the talent in this recruiting class until at least 2008.... But the 05 class was just as good. It's now 07 and we cannot win. If this season continues until December this way then something needs to be done. I'm not on the "GET THEM OUT OF HERE AND SOMEONE PUT A FORSALE SIGN ON HIS FRONT YARD!!!!!!!!!!!" bandwagon, but I do think Mike Hamilton needs to take the initiative to politely ask Fulmer to resign, and if he doesn't then Hamilton needs to fire him. The rest of the coaching staff will need to be cleaned out too. UT Football needs to regain some swagger out there, folks. It's been way too long. And this isn't just from this game. We almost lost to Air Force last year, folks. Air Force! Oh well.

Good post. This is very true of the current staff. They have also ran out of excuses. The fat and happy image that i get out of the people and mike hamilton is disturbing.People you can defend phil to the end.But everything greywolf has just posted is very true.People just can't let the 98 championship year go can they. The man has been here fifteen year's won the conferenc twice, thats about all that should be said.:mf_surrender:

I'm appreciative of Fulmer's success during the 90's. It was an incredible run. But that was then, and this is now...UT is going to go a decade (probably longer) without an SEC Championship. That's inexcusable.

The man had his run, and it was a lot of fun...but, he's not bigger than the program. We can't continue to let this program fall further into mediocrity just because the coach had a few good years...It's time for a change.

I feel better now...he says he and his staff are going to "work like heck" to get better. Great...

Where was the emotion, the passion, the intensity, and the urgency last night? We continued to punt the ball away in the 4th quarter as if we were trying not to lose by too many...

We need a coach that can infuse intensity and passion into our football program...Pearl did it with the basketball team, there's no reason that we can't do it with the football team.
