I may be stating the obvious but there is a very real "buy out" issue for any perspective new coach.

From our perspective- we are more than willing to pay someone who wins, but are getting sick of paying people who fail, but from the coach's side they are walking into a mess and are reluctant to leave their currently successful situation without a safety net.

I'm sure we'll get through it, but it's definitely an issue.

No Joke. Vols have to pay off Butch and his staff plus a damage fee to Schiano before they spend $1 on a new staff. Then pay $5 or $6 million to another university to hire their coach before any salary packages are negotiated? Them millions are starting to add up. Easy to see why schools fight to retain who they have rather than swim in the coaching sweepstake shark tank.

Media people act like the expectation of Vol Nation is to win a Natty every year. You would be a hero here beating the likes of Vandy, Kentucky, and SCAR on an annual basis. Throw in a win over a low level SEC West team and a win over Florida every third year and you'll have your own stature.

Money is no object at UT. They'll make you think it is but $350M to spend on stadium refinements at the drop of a hat? We can spend whatever it takes to get the right coach.

I wonder if we get Sumlin, if his buyout will be like it was at TAM. I think they had to pay him 10M in 6 weeks and him accepting another job has no affect on that. I hope we hire him but not on those terms.

The coaches know they have UT and Currie by the balls. They can just hold out and keep turning down offers until they get a $150+ million contract that pays $25 million annually.

No successful coach is coming to the SEC without a substantial safety net.

We may disagree politically, but I agree with you on some football.

prospective = likely to happen at a future date
perspective = a point of view

True, and with a lame duck AD no coach in his right mind would want to come to UT

You can raise a statue to someone who does that, but I sure won't.

I want to see Tennessee known for excellence in academics, in athletics, and in student life. Go Vols!

this is something I have brought up many times.. most people here I guess have normal 9-5 jobs with no contract in place. so its understandable they don't get firing someone on contract isn't that simple.

If we fired everyone the masses of UT fans support firing the school would go bankrupt from buyouts. Firing CBJ this year was a bad move on a lot of levels and this whole process is bearing that out just like firing Fulmer when and how was a bad move.

If you don't have honest interest and at least a verbal from someone you don't make the move we made. If CBJ is fired JJ does not go on his epic rant. Worst case CBJ should have been fired after the vandy game. We knee jerked and lost. We are so far not likely to find a better coach this year.
