Sells on Northwestern beating us. Said they haven't played the type of athletes they'll be facing on New Years. Buys on us winning and contending for the SEC next year. Said next year is our year.

I'm buying. Proud of the way the team competed this season ! I already told the misses that we have a trip to Atlanta next December in the works !!

Gotta disagree that they haven't played a team with athletes like Tenn's. But the team they played with comparable talent to us, Michigan, crushed them so basically a moot point.

Michigan does not have the athletes on the roster that UT does.

It is a correct statement to say that Northwestern has not faced a team with the level of athletes that UT has this year. Michigan is probably the closest to UT that NW has faced, but by a talent metric, UT would be predicted to beat Michigan 7 of 10 games.

I summarized the UT vs. NW match up through the lens of talent evaluations here:

Exactly, can't watch his fodder.

Kannell.......
he is the worst they have had since Trev Alberts.......naw....he is the worst they have ever had at college football. Kannell's schtick is to hate on the SEC at every opportunity...him saying the Vols will win, will keep him up at nights praying to the ACC gods to forgive him.

ESPN is losing bucketloads of money now....they think 'controversy' sells TV....it might in some circles, but the intelligent sports fan wants knowledgeable insight...not sensationalism...... Stephen A. Smith is maybe the worst of all time...i'm really glad he doesn't deal with college football in his insanities.....

We're a lot more athletic than Michigan. In fact only one big ten team is as fast and athletic as our team. Ohio State.

A lot of people predicted that. However, folks like you ignored that as a possibility.

If you would go back and look I posted that 8-4 would be our record without us beating a single team we shouldn't. What are you talking about? 8-4 was about the floor of expectations based on the schedule we had.

In regards to daj2576's post, yes they do.

2014: 247 comp rank: UT 7, MU 20
2013: 247 comp rank: UT 26, MU 7
2012: 247 comp rank: UT 20, MU 6
2011 Rivals: UT 13, MU 21
(I couldn't the the 247 comp for 2011, prolly because I'm bad at technology)

So they do in fact have as much talent as we do, actually more if you believe in recruiting websites. Obviously there are spots where one team is better than the other but it is close regardless. I used 247 composite to keep my post as unbiased as possible and to prevent this from being a thing where stats and stuff are picked from a place that would benefit one person's agenda, the composite seemed the fairest way to do that. Otherwise I would've just kept my shades on and said nobody but the nation's elite are as good as us.haha

Didn't say we weren't alot more athletic than Michigan, my point (aside from proving that NU has played a team as talented as us) was that they do have good athletes as well. Key difference is they are built for a prostyle system while we are a spread or whatever you wanna call it.

That means Jacksquat. How many of those players are still on each team and contributing? You figure that out and do the composite scores then post. They have had 2-3 coaching changes just like us, lots of turnover of personnel when that happens

They've had 1 coaching change and for a coach that everyone believes is a massive upgrade. I don't care enough to look into attrition for them but if I'm a player and I find out my new coach is Jim Harbaugh I'm staying. Don't let facts get in the way of your argument though. We've had our own fair share of attrition as well.

Actually, 9 - 3 was the floor, IMHO. I said 10 - 2 and basically Team 119 proved that.

I'm not happy about it, but Butch was still doing his OJT in the SEC this year. I'm over it though so long as Team 120 beats Florida, wins the East and competes for a play-off space next year.

I think anyone saying less than this is underselling realistic expectations.

DK does a pretty good job IMO. No one in the history of ESPN is as bad as Jason Seahorn (SP?). He stutterers through this thought process and always makes a point that is the exact opposite of common sense and logic.
