Butch's Presser Comments

Care to name a coach besides Nick Saban who has beaten top tier opponents and has not slipped up against a lesser team this year? I don't believe there is one, but assuming you can name one you must then ask yourself, "Would this coach leave to join Tennessee?"

If your answer is no (which it will be) then Butch's loss to USCjr is excusable

Would a loss to Vandy Saturday be excusable and if so what will the excuse be? The fans were to hard on butch? The fans created a distraction? Injuries? Butch is 0-3 against Muschamp, 2 of those losses are not excusable

I think he is right, they have done a good job turning it around. Hopefully inreasonable fans dont run off a good coach.

He needs to grow thicker skin and tone out the few complainers. Anyone worth their salt knows this season was wrecked by injuries. The fact that they haven't lost more games is a product of good coaching and player development.

Naw, just bringing a dose of reality to you and your ilk.

Reality?

As in thinking everyone but yourself is a 1 year old "pissing their diapers" because we hoped for a better season and don't care for how Jones is handling some warranted criticism?

That may be your reality, that everyone is freaking out, but most on here are having some reasonable discussions about Jones' comments and the season.

Thanks but no thanks on that dose of "reality" bud.

No, a loss to Vandy and USC in the same season would not be excusable and Butch would need to make major changes in staff and philosophy .

But it would still not lead to his firing. If nothing else, there are too many elite positions open at the end of 2016. We would have 4th choice at best

Some coaches " don't apologize for wins" and some coaches are constantly looking for ways to make their team better and motivate them.

And one of the best ways to motivate a player is sit their behind on the bench when they are under-performing. Pat Summit did that with her players. You're sad because you got benched? Well grow up and get over it. That is one of his biggest flaws... his loyalty to under-performing players. In 2014 when the Florida game was on he line, he stuck with Worley some hell or high water instead of burning Dobbs redshirt. That 10-9 loss to loud mouth still irritates me.

B4 CBJ we couldn't sniff the top 25, since CBJ we finished last season top 25 and have a chance to again. Yes, losing to SC stunk and no excuse...but I see we've come a long way.

There are only a few (but constant) people on here who refuse to look at facts and face reality. So I'm far from being the only one.
As far as what Coach Jones says or how he says it? He is a coach and if you followed other coaches like you follow him and what he says you'd see he is not an anomaly by any stretch.
And of course myself and the other adults on here wanted more wins. But we realize there's a helluva lot more to how this season turned out. And without question the single biggest reason is injuries. I cannot imagine anyone on here thinking we'd win the East if we knew we'd lose the number of starters we've lost. Yet it is glossed over like it's nothing. And the cliche haters on here use one of the most over used cliches about the massive # of injuries with "next man up. No excuse".

I think he's gone JMO and I have no proof or inside information SO DON'T TAKE THIS AS GOSPEL. But he seems stressed, unhappy and I don't think he likes when expectations are set.

He knew what he was getting himself into. Its the same at every big time coaching job. If he doesn't want expectations, he should have stayed at Cincy.

CBJ does not have the pulse of America if he does not realize our #1 sport is complaining X 10

Oh! We're going to complain win or lose. However, when we win like we're supposed to, there's no higher high. We go from the highest highs to the lowest lows on a weekly basis. Butch, you've got to toughen your shell, take some things as a grain of salt, and try to be one of us. That is, learn to complain and learn to celebrate. If we sucked, complain about it, blame everyone including yourself. Don't sit there in front of the mic always try to polish a t#%d. On the other hand, if we win big; "It's great to be a Tennessee Vol". Join us and enjoy the ride.
I bet anything that there are thousands of Alabama fans complaining right now about something. Otherwise, why would they need a football forum?

I'll bet you any amount of money you want that you cannot find a statement from Jones saying he doesn't want a title.
Unlike some I use reason. To think losing the starters we lost wouldn't have a major impact is just dumb for anyone.

No, because all Jones talks about is "look how far we've come". Of course Jones "wants" an NCAA title doesn't mean he is capable of doing so.

Face it, Jones is in over his head and is nothing more than a MAC-Big East coach.

8-9 win seasons are mediocre in the SEC.

If you're happy with that, you get of one of those Champions of life trophies.

I'm trying to have a coach who thinks it's unacceptable to win 8-9 games and wants to win real life NCAA Championships WITH life champions trophies included.

Butch still has a "MID MAJOR" mentality for winning.........8-9 is mediocre in the SEC but it would be OUTSTANDING at Cincinnati or Central Mich ... Note to Butch..........when u get paid 4 mil plus, then its either WIN or go back to accepting 1-2.5 mil a year in a mid major conf.

8 or 9 win seasons are Not mediocre in the SEC. You may want to look up the definition of mediocre. 8 or 9 win seasons in the toughest football conference is pretty good (with some 10 or 11 win seasons thrown in).

I'm pretty sure Butch wants to win the 'real life' championship. But, given that only one team wins a year and some good programs haven't won it in decades, it's a good goal but not a reason to run a coach off after 4 years. This is still a 'building program'. Most don't have patience for building and want instant gratification.

Ask Alabama, FL, LSU, AU, UGA fans if they're ok with 8-9 win seasons?

He's still building huh? I'd say year 4 is a good indicator of the coach we have, and we're two lucky ass plays away from being 6-5 in a year where we had SEC title hopes(please save injuries) all teams have that.

There you go. Put on blinders and stick your fingers in your ears. "Damn you reality! I don't want to face you". So sad

Reality is Butch failed to meet expectations this year which was win the east, this was his team. You can't blame Dooley, Kiffin or Fulmer for what is now. Butch is collapsing under pressure that really isn't even there at this time, lose Saturday and he will see a side of this fan base that he has yet to see. And by the way just because you disagree and get offended by what others say doesn't make them wrong.

"Minimize"??

Lets see.....

You needed a freshman field-goal kicker to miss at the end of regulation to go to overtime against Appy State....

You needed a hail-Mary at the end to beat UGA...

You haven't yet played a well-coached, well-executed first half against decent competition this year....

You needed an "all-world" play from your DB to punch the ball from the ball-carrier's hands at Tam to send that game into OT...

This team sits at 8-3, but with a few plays going the other way, you could easily be 7-4 or 6-5.

And you still have to play Vandy who may have the best RB you've faced all year....and with UT's run defense?!?!?

If that's all he said then he's got one foot out the door.
Ive said it before look at him at the beginning of the season to now he looks distant and completely i interested.
I'm even more worried about Saturday now.

You're so full of crap, you should be in fertilizer sales. Jones primary message is improvement. Improvement each day.
Has the team improved under him each year? So far? Yes.
And you can have your opinion on whether or not he's a "SEC" coach or MAC. But you cannot claim with facts that UT has not improved under Jones. You sound foolish just like the rest of the members of your little cry baby club who refuses to face reality.
Now go to your safe space and cry.
