Butch's guarantee

I admit, I was a Skepti-Vol...I have since been cured. Butch is sitting on some secret Boomage IMO.

I was just pointing out he didn't use "guarantee." And he said 3-4. It was an odd comment, for sure, though. Whether the final tally is 3,4, 6, etc., it looks to be another solid class.

Anything with a single digit is a solid class IMO.

But I like that smaller number myself.

You are being unnecessarily obtuse; even for you. I did NOT say 1 = expertS (plural). 1 is expert. 2 or more is "experts". One can put any article in front of the word experts one chooses.

You need to brush up on your English. You are still 100% wrong. "The" is a definite article.

Again, this is a diversion having little to do with Jones or the statement in the OP or the future of the program.

This is YOU being OBTUSE... even for you. I know it would do major damage to your pride but you are wrong about this. Best thing you can do is acknowledge it and go on or else find the quote and prove he didn't say "the".

He knew he had him reeled in before he made that statement yesterday. I expect a few more surprises.

You are probably right.

I know it is subjective but to me this is a better class already than the last one... and the last one was a hoss. Many here are fond of saying this is the best recruiting since (fill in the blank). But to my memory Fulmer never pulled down two classes this good in consecutive years. I also do not remember a better DL class (on paper) since recruiting rankings became a widely publicized thing. This is probably the best recruiting UT has had in the modern era.

PS- IMO, Phillips looks like a guy that could possibly get a 5th star. He looked like the best player on the field for much of the AAA game. The announcers said he was just as impressive during practice.

Looks like he's locking down the State again.

I'm glad too, I was tired of losing good talent to out of State teams.

We will finish with

Phillips 4*
Allen 4*
Sapp 4*
Jones 4*
Love 4*

And Ford will get a bump to 4*

We will finish 4-5 on Rivals.
I haven't read the rest of the thread yet and this may have been mentioned, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kyle gets a bump to 5. They all but said it during the halftime interview with the analyst.

He deserves it with his play and production but on Rivals he would need to jump 100+ spots. Maybe he will though. Would be nice to have 3 - 5* players

One thing CBJ does not mind doing: making up facts.

It's easy to give a guarantee when you're already prepared to declare something to be the case.

I love people who feel being a true fan is not enjoying the ride. Congrats guy on pointing out what we may already know but you feel you are too savvy for all of us. We need you.

I would often rather smash my left nut with a rubber mallet then read your posts.
Shall we now argue which nut would be the worst one to smash?

I was wondering if anyone besides me saw Butch's press comference after the game and him saying he all but guarantees at 3 or 4 ranked recruiting class. I know we are close to that now. Makes you wonder what he knows.

Uh, aren't all recruiting classes ranked?

That's a much bigger deal than many might imagine. TN HSFB is improving and especially it seems in the mid-state. Very important to keep most of the good players home.

Jones is doing an exceptionally good job of it.

Kudos to you for using my characterization of you back at me. You are as profound as you are creative. Maybe next time you can go the, "I'm rubber you're glue whatever you say bounces of me and sticks to you" approach.

I am glad that you have dropped the debate between plural and singular. That is progress.

You like to argue. I do not. So, if you can grasp what article to use with plural nouns AND that article used specified "experts who made those predictions", the time you have spent will not have been in vain. For our purposes, it makes no difference if Butch had said "a couple of experts", or "an allotment of experts". His reference to the prediction he cited means he can choose how he wants to say it.
The question we must answer is, did Butch use the word "experts" in a plural sense which is a noun (which is my understanding), or was "experts" used to denote a group which is an adjective (which is how i fathom you understood it)? A similar example is when a reference is made to 'the poor', 'the disabled', 'the insane', etc.

Please take this sincere invitation not to read my posts then. Wouldn't want you to experience any unnecessary pain.

Unlike a lot of stuff here... the argument being made against me in this case has a right and wrong answer.

I have said repeatedly that Jones wasn't being literal so my "criticism" isn't of Jones. It is of people who insist on arguing against the rules of the English language.

Then quit arguing about it in the football forum.

Please look at my original post about it... then who made an argument about it.

I disagree with people and a few now seem to make it their mission to disagree with me even if they have to twist things or make things up.

Here's what I said:
Do you have that exact quote handy? Because I don't recall him qualifying that statement. I believe he said "the experts" as if it were many, most, or all. That particular statement was hyperbole bordering on pure BS.

Here's what McDad said:
Truthfully, he only needs two "experts" (analysts, journalists, etc) in order to make that statement. In fact, he would seek out negative press in order to motivate his staff and players.

He was incorrect and instead of just acknowledging it or letting it pass... He started taking personal shots at me.

"The" would mean the whole group... not just two.
