Just be glad he didn't also get a three year extension or anything like that.

So a guy goes 8-4 with TWO wins over a team with a winning record and he gets a 1/2 million dollar raise. You really think Jones is gonna run off to another job? They should of used that money to fix the field. :no:

I think it is still a manageable buy out because of his duty to mitigate. It's hard for me to see a scenario where Butch doesn't land a HC gig at a decent mid major. You've got to figure at today's rates that's going to pay 1.5 to 2 mil per year.

Under the old contract that would leave us owing .5 mil to nothing for the remainder of the contract. Now you can add .5 per year to that. Still doable.

An exception to his "hireablity" would be if he was fired for cause, but in that case we would be protected anyway.

Fortenberry said today on radio that Jones' new contract actually did include an extra year and an additional 2 million to his buyout. Tifwiw.

if he wins the East next season then he is on track for another million to be added.. Tennessee knows how to pay coaches

Of course if he goes 8-4 again natives might be a little restless.

I agree with Volhoops too. Don't get me wrong, I really like Butch and really hope that he gets our Vols back to the top of the SEC mountain. But I just can't see giving Butch a raise after this season. The best team we beat was the Dawgs, and our season ending win streak was against teams that were way below the 500 mark. I know we finished the regular season 8-4, but let's be honest, who did we beat that warrants a raise for Butch?

I also feel he didn't deserve a raise. Our best win was against a stagnant Georgia. So next season ticket costs will go up. I'm gonna save thousands again and watch from my recliner!

We should have raised it 3 or 4 million, with a 5 year extension. Let's face it, he's so great almost every school in the country would love to fire what they have, and hire CBJ! There are a lot of schools with piles of money looking for a leader as he has proven himself to be. Come on! The program was a sh(* pile when he took it over, we didn't have any players, the stadium was falling apart, fans stopped buying tickets, it was awful. But after the hiring of CBJ, everything has changed-and as so many have pointed out (or should I say predicted) Next year is his year, this is the year CBJ will show all the doubters that he's the man. The SEC title is ours for sure-don't take my word for it, just read the posts of many of our experts. After next year-recruiting will be easy, in fact, we'll have to turn down top picks from all over the country-they'll be call us. Stop complaining about a little half million dollar raise-it should have been a lot more.
