Butch wrecked this place

Chavis back to run the defense. He is still the best DC we've had since Fulmer was fired.

Les Miles to coach.

Tee Martin OC

I think we could do really good even next season with this trio.

Here is the guy who can restore the Big Orange to greatness. After the University of Wisconsin housed the FAU football team for a week after their 14-31 loss letting them use their facilities to prepare for their next game after the hurricane hit Florida, Lane Kiffin took out a full page ad in the Wisconsin Journal to thank them.
This was the note from the classy guy we need to coach our football team.

"Thank You! You have opened your hearts to our football program for the past six days in our time of need. Every single person on campus and in the community was kind and courteous. The Badger Football Team even shared their home with us and made our stay as comfortable as possible. We are forever indebted to the Wisconsin Athletic Department, Athletic Director Barry Alvaraez and Head Coach Paul Chryst for their collective generosity. We wish you nothing but the best of luck with the rest of your football season. ON WISCONSIN!
Sincerely,
Lane Kiffin
Florida Atlantic University Head Football Coach"

In the midst of all this confusion and embarrassment during the last week, I have to ask something I have long wondered about. WHO is responsible for putting these inept people in our administration and coaching over the last 10 years or so! For such an awesome university, we have bungled the hiring of many important positions so that we now look as pathetic as any university in the country. It wasn't the FANS, although I wish some of our fans would show more CLASS in some of the comments made on social media. If we ever had any thought of Gruden coming here, we should have kept quiet about it so as not to look like total idiots in the end. We beat that to death and there was probably NEVER a chance it would happen. I hope Coach Fulmer can bring some stability and common sense to our athletic program as we search for a new coach. I hope NO boosters will interfere to complicate the process. We have made a mess of the AD's we have hired and coaches so understandably fans are frustrated, but, we must act with some class if we are to reflect well on our university and help restore respect within the country. Not that other universities have not had their problems and been crucified in the media, but, it hurts when it is us. Hopefully, we are on the path to bring respect back to the University of Tennessee...it will take ALL of us and we need to start TODAY!

Haslams. All on the Haslams.

Its amazing. We change AD and their supporting faction (I guess) and yet the low balling keeps right on rolling along. The richest program in the SEC but we have to find the cheapest coach.

Should have fired Butch last year......

And John Currie would likely agree with you.

Right.

Because we all know how many coaches would have been lining up to come here after firing a coach for going 9-4.

S..t I'll bet Belichek would have been beating the doors down in the AD office to work here.

Smdh. Some of y'all are too much

Worked out well for Georgia.

It takes a collective effort to screw something up this badly. There’s not one person or group that can, or should, take all of the blame.

He lost two in a row to Vanderbilt while giving up 87 points in those two games. That is more than enough to get any Tennessee football coach fired.

This place was wrecked a long time before Butch Jones became HC.

Stop with the agenda of trying to make things really bad so that you all can make excuses for the potential VFL's that may be on the new coaching staff.

For the last 5 years a large portion of this fan base has said it shouldn't take that long. If we truly are upgrading - we should be playing for the East in 2019. If we aren't, don't care who is on the staff - they failed.

Way worse than Kiffin and Dooley. But alas, I’m pleased with Vol fans. Schiano’s involvment in the Sandusky mess may or may not be true, but what is true is that he has a NCAA record of 68-67. Yesterday, we all let our voices be heard that mediocrity won’t be accepted. WHY FIRE BUTCH to hire GREG SCHIANO????? It’s a lateral move.

Currie, you seriously need to come out and say something, ANYTHING, to help put this fire out. We need some TRUTH for a change. I don’t care if you step up to the podium and say “we called Chip Kelly, Jon Gruden, Les Miles, Dan Mullen, Yada yada and they all said no”. That will at least show that you give a $hi+.

Today, calls need to be made to Les Miles, Lane Kiffin, and Kevin Sumlin. If all 3 of them say no, burn it down.

Butch didn't wreck this place. Although last season was abysmal he really did some good things for the program and the school. He brought back a lot of VFL's and got them involved with the program again. It was great going to games on Saturdays and seeing VFL's visiting and being honored on the field. He helped reignite all the stadium renovation talk and planning. Two back to back 9 win seasons. A 9 win season at Tennessee hadn't been seen since 2006. It's not 12-0 or 11-1 but given the last 11 years that's pretty good. He got the Academic Progress Rate greatly improved while he was here. While you might shrug that off as not a big deal and has nothing to do with on the field performance it's a big deal to the student athletes who didn't make it to the NFL and are pursuing career jobs. He boosted sales of school apparel and brand merchandise in local stores with all of his slogans and Butchisms, like them or hate them. Haslam and awful administrations are what did the most damage to the school.

Other side of the coin.
Butch alienated a lot of former players such as Jay Graham, Tee, Swain and more. In fact, it was getting bad.

Stadium reno was under way long before Butch. In fact, it's the same plans Hammy had drawn up. Hart did a lot to get the finances back in shape to reignite the work.

Butch left at least 6 wins on the table during his tenure that would have catapulted UT back to relevance.

Here's what the new coach will inherit fro 2018:

Senior class- remains of a top 5 class, too many overrated prospects but could be fairly solid
Junior class- very underrated coming out of HS but many of UT's best players (Bituli, Warrior, Taylor, Sapp)
Soph class- again very underrated but two QBs, two good RBs(maybe 3), a couple of promising OLinemen along with one of the best OLinemen in the SEC.

hate Butch all you want but he inherited a very depleted Junior and Soph class his first year as evidenced by ZERO players drafted out of those classes. The next guy will have talent in each class.

This is in large part on the administration. How long were they diverting sports revenue into different school programs other than sports? They are plenty of industries out there to fund that kind of research. Sports is big money, but it is also huge investment in an ultra competitive field. If you short change it like they did for years until Hart showed them how dumb that was (the one really good thing sure fire thing he did right), how do you expect to compete in the SEC?

As to Butch, I would be more critical of him if they hadn't undercut his assistant coaching budget this year. Larry Scott might be a good coach, but he wasn't really ready to be a OC in this conference. Maybe they wanted rid of him and with the hair brained cliches I get it, but the obvious pattern of undercutting and backstabbing has been the norm for longer than you with no wrinkles in their skin have been alive. It happened to Battle and in differing ways every coach since him. Maybe it was a big reason why Kiffin was so eager to get to USC.

Trying to lay the blame at any one man's feet is useless. But it is still mostly the boosters. They are at the top of the hill where the **** rolls down.

Honestly, we all wrecked it. Fans have been a big part of why our program has become the laughing stock of the SEC.

This Schiano story is the most Tennessee thing ever.

Yeah, it’s the fans fault. All we’ve done is continue to support a team and university that has given us over a decade of mediocrity and failure.

People like you with your lame, self-loathing attitude are hurting this team way beyond anything that occurred in the last week.

The administration wrecked this place.

Through all the disappointment over last decade+, the one constant is the BOT and overbearing boosters like Haslam. It has been said over and over again, the only way this program gets back to where it hopes to be is for change with those folks. As long as the same names are calling the shots, UT is going to continue to wallow in this mess.

You can say many things, but stating that Butch wrecked this place is completely mindless and a tribute to a limited perspective.
