I think Butch knew there would be pressure and scrutiny. I think he thought there would be more of a grace period from the fans given the state of the program he took over.

4 full years is a very reasonable grace period. Butch' biggest problem has been BAD losses when so much was on the line:

-2013 losing to Vandy kept us out of a bowl. Butch should have won that game. He was out coached by Franklin.
-2014 losing to FL neg affected the fan base & Butch was out coached by Muschamp. Ultra conservative decisions.
-2015 losing to OU & FL due to ultra conservative decisions. Out coached in both games.
-2016 losing to USCjr & Vandy were horrible. Out coached in both games.

Perception is now negative anyway you look at it. What makes it so bad for Butch is 2015 FL loss coupled with 2016 USCjr & Vandy loss kept Butch & TN from playing in back to back SEC championship games. Anyone who watched the foregoing 6 key losses back to 2013 knows Butch was too tight & conservative resulting in the negative perception currently facing TN & Butch because the trend is he chokes under pressure.

-The positive is Butch has recruited very aggressively & overall has definitely upgraded the talent at TN and represented TN very well the last four years in navigating difficult off field issues.
-He will be here next year & we will see some changes.
-TN will be going to their 3rd bowl game in a row which given recent history & where the program was when he arrived is a tremendous accomplishment!
-If TN wins their bowl game TN will finish ranked in the top 25 again, possibly top 20 in the final CFP rankings. To me, this is very positive. But they will have to win it.

You need to qualify the second bullet to be completely factual.

We had the most talented team sitting on the bench with injuries during most of the season.

It doesn't help to have the most talent if that talent is not on the field of play.

At least to me, the FL win this year was and still is the biggest WIN for Butch and TN in YEARS. Especially the way Butch and co. adjusted and took control in the 2nd half. It was a great experience and feeling having TN beat FL this year.

Nice job. We'll thought out post. Peoples' perceptions are real, positive or negative. Butch needs to understand this and it is up to him to change those negative perceptions. Simply put... he needs to "own it". Until then the debate will rage. Gonna be an ugly off season.

It's their narrative. If you weren't fire Butch from the beginning, that's the first strike. And if you weren't FAHR Butch after Florida last year, you're in a coach worship cult. Now any wait and see approach post is met with the full treatment! I posted that I support our coach as long as he's our coach and got called a Nazi. We all have doubts and questions and second guesses. If he moves on I'll follow the same path with the unfortunate fool who follows him. When Dooley was fired after that Vandy game, I was perfectly prepared for the ensuing coaching search. At least equal to the others with a 3 year head start. :gone:

I get all of that, meaning I understand what you're saying, but for the life of me I don't get how anyone can post crap like that, and expect me to take them seriously.

Sometimes I just laugh, but sometimes I just can't and I want to get some answers. But 9 out of 10 times, I get the same ole crap, either they just disappear or, I'm a ........
