Butch the Builder

In 2015 Ferguson just posted 3000 yards and 35 TD's for CCC. Now starting at Memphis.

Fegruson imo was just as talented as Will Grier.

Let his attitude get the best of him though.

But, I believe Dobbs would still be the guy

My point was to illustrate the football program builder - Butch Jones.

- He will always have playing time available for freshmen.

- Yet, still have talented veteran leadership at key positions. And now depth.

After a while - at least in the old days- once you get 3 or 4 talented classes in and start winning, Freshman playing time goes down.

Butch is in year four and is still playing freshman. That is a huge recruiting advantage.

Butch has a chart on how to keep playing time open for incoming players. :)

It's obvious you have not met Riley? Where did you get that "attitude" quote from? On volnation, I guess? He's the most mellow dude you will ever meet. Riley leaving UT had nothing to do with work ethic or competition. It was all about the Coaches, especially Bajakian.

Making excuses for him won't help anyone...I don't know Riley and am saying nothing about the young man...

BUT--there comes a time when we all have had to deal with a complete azz who is in authority over us--whether a coach or a boss....it forces us to grow up and develop some hard-earned character....

Better to learn that at a YOUNGER age than at an OLDER age....:salute:

In Riley Ferguson's own words, per an article from Tom Schad which ran in 'The Commercial Appeal' on March 30, 2016:

"I've had a long road getting here (Memphis), and I feel like it's just helped me grow not only as a football player but as a man," he said. "I've matured a lot. When I was at Tennessee, I feel like I was a little immature. But now that I'm here, I'm just blessed to be here."

By his own admission, he made mistakes at Tennessee and he had some growing up to do while he was here. There is nothing wrong with pointing that out when Riley has alluded to it himself. He has also expressed regret at leaving Tennessee when he did.

You left out Peterman - we saw how he contributed - Bambi in the headlights; but since he's doing so well at Pitt, Butch just must have missed something - uh-huh.

I still think Peterman's arm was fatigued when he was here. I commented on that at some point before he made it into the lineup against Fla. I remember thinking that in some of the practice videos from that time he looked like he was uncomfortable after making some throws (rolling his shoulder, shaking his arm, etc. more than seemed normal to me). Just speculation though. Glad he is doing well at Pitt.

Got to agree with you. Think Riley's on the right path now. He had to grow up. He's gonna impress at Memphis.

It's simply a fact that Peterman played Florida with a broken finger when the meltdown occurred. Too many people forgot the critical facts surrounding Nate Peterman, judging him harshly based upon his very very brief playing time against impossible circumstances.

Peterman now has unseated the starter at Pitt in his first year of substantive playing time. He is every bit the sharpshooter he was in practice at UT. Even made a video of his astonishing long-range accuracy.

Payne was a highly rated miss on our part. Didn't fit the defense and was dropped below Moseley. Hope he landed in a better scheme for his skillset.
