Butch tells Volnation "Shut-up and strap-in"

people don,t understand this ,it will take several years or more to get to winning 9 or 10 games per year

If by "9 or 10" you mean regular season plus bowl ...

...and...

If by "several years or more" you mean this year or next (2015 or 2016) ...

...then...

Yes, I agree with you completely.

We win 8 regular season games plus a bowl game for 9 total in 2015. Reasonably. More if we overachieve.

We win 9-10 regular season and compete for SEC Championship in 2016. Plus a bowl win. Reasonably (as long as no derail in the next 18 months).

So yep, I agree with you entirely! :)

We were 3-4 point favorites to beat Iowa in the Taxslayer Bowl. Just sayin...

TaxSlayer Bowl College Football Betting Line Favors Tennessee over Iowa | Odds Shark

Iowa Hawkeyes vs Tennessee Volunteers Odds - Friday January 2 2015 | Odds Shark Just saying! But regardless of what the final spread was....I mean, 3 points! It was 42-7 at the half. And whatever Vegas said aside...most of the sports analysts were leaning Iowa. It was at the very least supposed to be close. I just don't think you are proving a point. Butch proved himself on this one.

You stated we were underdogs and picked to lose by most experts.....but we weren't. That was the point I proved. Btw, no big deal, you're right, we looked great vs Iowa and as excited as I was that we ended the season on such as high note, Butch didn't exactly overachieve last year.....no signature win(s) and a bad loss to Florida. There's no doubt that we improved in most areas, we're clearly going in the right direction and I'm firmly in his corner, but let's not pretend he doesn't still have more to prove on game days. He needs to parlay his great recruiting into an 8-9 win season in 2015 IMHO. I sincerely hope that DeBord is a big part of making that happen.

See, I'm trying hard here. Good read about Lloyd Carr on DeBord......

Former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr praises Vols

Snippet...

So it comes as little surprise that Carr endorses Jones’s latest personnel move.

“If you check the record that he had when he was our coordinator, it was really an outstanding performance,” Carr said in a phone interview Saturday. “He’s an outstanding recruiter. He works at it. He has a great love and passion for the game. I think he has wonderful communication skills with the players. He’s a good teacher. He’s a good coach, he’s a good man. I think Butch made a great hire.”

Bunch of liars on here... They say they will wait to see if old man debord can coach and if not will admit it. Liars!!!! If my time on VN has taught me anything it is that the coach worshipers latch on to a coach and love him more than the team. They will make every excuse for the coach until he's gone...even when it is beyond doubt the coach is in over his head. Sound familiar?

You claimed people were 'pretending to know the inner workings' of the offensive staffs he's been on. Then you said he's been credited with coaching QBs once in the past 30 years.

I posted a quote from a person that doesn't have to 'pretend to know the inner workings'. He also happens to be superbowl winning QB that credits Debord with coaching and developing him.

Your response was weak. You are welcome to your 'dissenting opinions'. By all means. Just don't get all butt-hurt when people poke holes in those dissenting opinions with facts.

I guess UT Sports is wrong as well.

DeBord Named Vols Off. Coordinator/QB Coach - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

See that thing to the right? The thing labelled "coaching experience"?

Find anywhere on there that he held the title of QB coach except Ft Hays State.

It's not a matter of " butt hurt"( easily one of the most idiotic terms on this site which speaks to your level) , it's amusement when people such as yourself go all in on anyone the athletic department trots out as the next messiah.

Then, if they fail, you're the first ones wanting to blow the whole thing up and lashing out at anyone who maintains some level of realism about where the program stands.

Yes. I agree. Many people on here probably should have withheld judgment and done more research before tearing the [potential] hire apart.

Personally, I'm still in that mode. I'll neither crown him, nor crucify him, until I see the product he puts on the field at UT. And then, CBJ will get either the kudos or the complaints. It's his hire and it falls on him either way.

There is actually a moment of lucidity here between the ever popular lulz you get from butt hurting another poster in your mind.

You apparently managed to stop gushing over a generic Tom Brady quote long enough to actually think for yourself.

I agree with all of it.

This all sounds great.

Glad DeBord has drawn accolades from former players and employers.

I am going to maintain some healthy skepticism on the hire until the bullets start flying in the Fall in the SEC.

That stance is obviously far too offensive for some on here to accept though.

Wonderfully done....

Go Vols.

That's why they play the game. Talk is just talk until it transfers to the field.

If Saban can make the playoffs with Kiffin as OC, the sky's the limit for the Butch/DeBord combination.

No matter what you think of Kiffin he is a great OC, QB Coach and recruiter. What he did with Crompton and Sims is nothing short of a miracle.

Oh st. is returning a bunch of sophmores for next season, 15 starters in total, and they just won an NC. I don't think "young" is a very good excuse honestly. Coaching matters.

They are at least one year ahead of us in youth and Tressell left them loaded with talent. Whoever coached them the year before Meyer won games. No comparison...yet. As you said they win with sophmores and red-shirt sophmores.

100%

plays he called against UCLA that put a L on us was not his best stuff if you are old enough to remember that.

Kiffin still actually thought Crompton could read a defense at that point LOL

Once he started calling nothing but roll outs where Crompton could only read half the field or 3 step drops to one primary receiver, that's when he took off.

Does sound familiar. Mostly because both sides do this.

I guess it could be worse, someone could do this but call others out for the same thing. Making them a liar and hypocrite.

With the hiring of Mike Debord, Butch has sent a clear message to Volnation: "Shut-up and strap-in."

This hire means that Butch believes the Vols will win the East in 2015 and beyond.

High-octane OCs with offenses 70 spots higher than Mike Bajakian's (despite being on less money) were not needed. The guy who designed 3-plays that won Charles Woodson the Heisman is all that is required for Championships now.

In essence, Butch has said that sjt18 and MedicT could be co-OCs and he would still win the East.

I've got a lot of faith in Butch, and he has given all of us the ultimate Butch-slap. Butch has got this.

It was an idiotic hire and the epitome of the scenario where highly successful people fool themselves into thinking they can will any decision they make to be successful.

Not sure why you kids on this site think 58 is old. Man is in his prime. Life is swift. All of you will find out very soon how quick it runs by. Someday you will realize it's not much more than a bugs life you spend on earth.
