Butch TELLS TEAM "Get ready for a big change"

I like his enthusiasm, but I could do without the gimics.

I was not a big fan of the hire, but I think he's pretty much done everything right thusfar, with the exception of bringing almost his enitre Cincinnati staff down here.

There is a lot of talent on that defense. They've got to improve dramatically if we hope to be bowl eligible.

you cosigned an inaccurate statement.

Quoting this just for clarity sake. Parmejohn, this post isn't directed at you.

Since when do Tennessee fans need to pump things up to feel good? Butch is a winner. His 50-27 record proves it. His 32-12 in-conference records proves it even more.

That being said, we on Volnation.com used to be EMBARRASSED by Phillip Fulmer claiming an SEC East Championship when it was a co-championship. We made fun of it. I remember it vividly.

We have a good coach. Yes, he's won or shared 4 conference championships. Isn't that fine to say?

Maybe I'm just a nit for semantics. Maybe I'm just dumb. But I feel silly bragging about our coach winning a co-championship that was shared by 4 teams.

We have a good coach. That should be enough to make us feel good.

Negative

People weren't making fun of it being a co-anything. They were making fun of the fact that it wasn't really a championship to begin with yet it was celebrated by some as a ring-worthy accomplishment.

In conferences without championship games, how do you invalidate co-championships? Do you just pretend the wins didn't happen and and the standings not reflect a tie at the end of the year and then tell everybody "thanks for playing"?

i love what butch is doing but some if ya need to pump the breaks and just wait till they kick it off.
When CLK came in it was all about he gets what CPFdidnt
When DD came in it was he gets what CLK and CPF didnt
safe to say many of us got prematurely excited

I understand your point. However, they have tiebreakers. 2012 had four (FOUR!) co-champions.

Also, GA, yes, kinda what I was saying about the Fulmer East title. It's silly to celebrate anything like that.

For the record I never said that CBJ "sucked". And never implied it!

Disagree a little bit. Every point you made about him was pretty negative, skeptical at best. You don't like his past success which you questioned based off one loss, you don't like his methods he's used so far, I inferred you didn't like what he did with our top 20 recruiting class and so on. Guess "beauty" is just in the eye of the beholder. I think Butch has given reason to be optimistic. You don't. But as you said, we'll know soon.

Then you would get your ass handed to you and really have something to complain about.

Calling CBJ's early tactics "hokey" tells me all I need to know. He is trying to instill responsibility in this fragile program and find ways for players to better themselves each day and perform for their teammates. Hopefully, that helps with personal accountability on the field and teammates playing for each other.
I'm sure your vast knowledge of how to win games would be appreciated, so if you have something unhokey, let them know.

I guess with your superior football knowledge base you would agree with CBJ's statement that he hired the "best coaching staff in America". Oh and how about his statement on the radio this week wherein he said he had a #1 recruiting class a cpl of years.

And I am just one of many people who think that many of CBJ's "butchisms" and development "programs" are "hokey".

Someone help me out here...are the jersey colors an individual thing or is it a team thing? i.e. if the team practice is awful they all wear blue?

No, I just remember that there were plenty of posters who thought Dools' tactics were awesome and now he gets routine beatdowns on here for it......just saying he needs to win above anything else.

Dooley is getting beat down for his results. He's also getting beat down for bone-headed tactics as the bone-headed tactics have leaked out. There is a difference.

It's OK to give kudos when we think he's doing something right. He'll get either more kudos and support, or beat down, when the results show themselves.

The problem with this chat board and many Volunteer fans is that if you say anything even remotely critical of CBJ and the new staff you get blasted like a target in naval artillery exercises.

Question - If CBJ and staff (specifically his carry overs from Cincy) did so much more with less at Cincy (and if CBJ is so much better than Dooley (and for the record Dooley is and always will be a complete moron)) then how did Dooley put the smack down on CBJ and Cincy in 2011?

That question is question that is very troubling to me. However we will all see whether CBJ can coach soon enough and he has 12 months to put together a top 10 recruiting class. He can say as many Butchisms as he wants and do whatever 'lympics he thinks are necessary (and I could care less what color jerseys they wear in practice) but it will come down to wins and losses and recruiting! "What will be, will be".

I haven't read through everything here just yet, so I hope this hasn't already been addressed. This is how/why doofus' team beat butch's cincy team in 2011:

1. Momentum: Go back and watch the beginning of that game. Prior to the onside kick, the flow of this game was very troubling. Cincy moved the ball with ease in the 1st Qtr. However, Doofus called and got the onside kick which completely changed the momentum toward UT. We scored pretty quickly after we got the ball and never looked back.

2. Home field advantage: The change in MO got the crowd going and the players juiced. Also, home field advantage is not something people just throw around. On average, Vegas values HFA at aprox 3 points.

3. Superior SEC talent.

4. Gameplan Change: With UT pulling away, cincy went with the sr qb and got away from pead who had been very successful running the ball in the 1st qtr (I'm certainly not implying this game change as a knock against butch bc he had to try to keep up wih Brey and co. I can't fault him for going with the sr qb. He didn't have much of a choice once time started ticking away).

All this to say, stop comparing butch to doofus. We finally have a football guy rather than a blame everyone else, whinney, attorney for our coach.
