Butch speech in Memphis

Can we get a dislike button Freak? After ten dislikes in a 24 hour period you can't login for 24 hours? TIA

I have asked for a dislike button ever since I started posting. Don't know what the programming problems could be, but for me they would be worth it.
Can you imagine how some of our "like-dislike" totals would look?
As for being "timed out", I figure the like-dislike total would be good enough to put a damper on most unsavory posting.... Hummmmm, on second thought-----

I'd be happy if they did away with the like button.
I didn't join till after they had it, but I used to read before there was a like. It's amazing to see how some of the posters here changed their style.

No doubt some of them went from level-headed posting to extreme popularity contest.

I'm a little tardy in posting this, but I thought some may enjoy.

Butch spoke at the annual Boys and Girls Club of Memphis Steak & Burger Night a couple weeks ago. After expenses, his talk helped raise over $200,000 for an organization that helps keep kids in after school programs and off the streets.

It was the first time I've seen Butch in person. Prior to the speech he took pictures and signed mini footballs. I got to quickly introduce myself to him, shake his hand, and take a picture after standing in a long line for 30-45 minutes. Butch was extremely gracious and humble with the fans during that time. He was cool and collected in a crazy environment. He was a great representative of the University.

His speech was geared toward the kids in the audience. I'm hoping there was at least one future (Tennessee) 5 star prospect in the room taking heart. Here's the cliff notes:

-Your last name is your reputation.

-Fight through adversity. If you don't, you won't achieve your goals.

-Football is great for teaching kids life lesson because "football is life sped up." (I thought that was great). He talked about the joy of the team feeling like they had beat UGA last year, only moments later to feel the anguish and sadness that they were going to lose, and then just a few minutes later being legit convinced that someone was going to go up and get that ball in the end zone. And then the elation of that happening.

-To be good or great at anything, you have to do it "d.a.t. way." Details, Accountability, Toughness. Regarding Details, he told the Ray Allen story about Ray Allen practicing his back up jump shot that he ultimately drained against San Antonio in Game 6 of the 2013 playoffs. Spoelstra told Butch that Lebron and someone else on the Heat used to rib him hard about him practicing that shot over and over and over after practice and Ray continued to practice anyway. Regarding accountability, Butch told the kids to own their choices because their choices will own them one day.

-To guarantee success a commitment must be made, a plan must be laid ("a commitment without a plan is a dream"), and most importantly a price must be paid. :good!:

GBO

Man! I'm ready to play...now if I can just get my tired old legs to move like they used to! Ha

"Your last name is your reputation"

I love this. I have told our kids something similar, that their first name is what identifies them as a unique person and their actions reflect on themselves, but that their last name means they also belong to something bigger than themselves and their actions reflect on the whole family as well.

I can't help but wonder what you would say to that nascar driver, Dick Trickle.

I say NO to the he dislike button. I think it could be bad for the reputation of some, uh, well, friends I know.

Instead of a Dislike button, I suggest a button that banishes the offending poster to the Alabama football site.
That'll fix 'em!

I don't know I didn't see any new 'sayins' for 2017...maybe its too early...and not to be a contrarian but I don't think football is 'life sped up' I think standing at the 'chalkboard' trying to do a math problem that you didn't prepare for will teach you far more about life than football...it did me.

If it motivates kids to become successful adults...I could care less about what analogy is used:good!:

Made, laid and paid.
Sounds good.

And yes, Memphis is a crazy environment.

If we had a 20 dislikes = a month ban, there would be no politics forum.

Problem with Lyle is that in his big talent year, he blew it in a bad way.

Look at Saban's coaching history. It's way worse than Butch's comparatively.

Saban figured it out before the towns folk got to the castle with their pitch forks and torches and now he is the gold standard. Hopefully, Butch will figure it out too. Just zero room anymore to have an off year.

In what possible, conceivable way is Saban's coaching history "way worse than Butch's"?? Please be specific. This oughtta be really, really good.

As far as this speech by Butch, it was outstanding. Nobody can say that Butch isn't a really good guy, a fine human being imo. The only argument/debate is how well he does his job as Tennessee's head coach.

Which hasn't been excellent thus far!

I do miss the days when we would go into each Saturday thinking (knowing) we were going to win the game! I miss when Peyton was here, even if we were behind going into the 4th, that we were going to pull it out! Didn't EVER have that feeling against Florida though but always thought "maybe this is the year".

Was just something about the Orange that all of those teams in those days didn't think they could win.
