Butch should sign a great 2014 class

Most kids are gonna wait and see what kind of program Butch runs and what kind of success he has next season before committing.

It's up to him and his staff to start selling those kids that he can help put championship rings on their fingers with his philosophy.

There isn't a program in the SEC that needs a "signature" win more than the Vols right now. Haven't had one of those in three years.

I am sure Sumlin and company mentioned that win over Alabama to a few recruits.

If he can get to a bowl than yes; but, really, I am worried about QB. I do not think Worley has the juice. I like Peterman, but if he goes between Riley and Dobbs- I hope it doesn't turn to a Driskel v Brissett thing, and if it does, I hope he chooses the right guy!

hmm I wonder how good the 2015 class is going to be without all of these legacies to save us.

Depends entirely on how the team does in 2 seasons under Butch.

It's not rocket science, win and recruits come. Lose and it's much harder (unless your Ole Miss).

I don't know that they "screwed" around with substandard coaching... You take a shot on these coaches and sometimes it doesn't work. Dooley failed and Kiffin was a disloyal jerk... Neither are unique in college football- Weis, Nutt, Petrino, Neuheisel, RichRod, etc. You never know whether something will work until you try it.

Before you start... Neither Miles or Saban had impressive resumes when they arrived at LSU. Richt nor Muschamp had ever been a HC. Freeze, Sumlin, Meyer, Sweater Vest, Franklin, etc came from mid-majors or lower. Few "big splash" coaches exist and even then they fail as often as they succeed.

BUUUUUUTTTTT... your major point is dead on. Jones has a better roster in '13 than he will have in '14 and likely better than '15 due to youth. He needs to establish his coaching ability THIS YEAR. Too many are writing off this fall without realizing how critical it is to the future of Jones and the UT program's near and mid term success.

I do not believe he's UT's HC in 3 years if he does not manage at least an 8-5 record this fall. Maybe wrong... but I am willing to be on record.... and I make very few ironclad predictions.

I have little doubt at all that 8 wins is what it takes to show these recruits that he's moving UT in the right direction. That or better and he can sell his ability to coach plus early PT... that's a powerful combo.

Going a little out a limb saying if he doesn't win 8 games next year he'll be fired after 2 yrs ( "I do not believe he'll be UTs coach in 3 years ....). How about letting this play out? Have no idea which players might be studs, how well he coaches them up, etc. I understand its just your opinion but that's jumping the gun IMHO. This year and next years class may yield some immediate impact players - heck, we have some redshirt freshmen from last year that may come on this year; maybe Worley or Peterman turn out to be much better at closing out games than Bray. Just think we should slow our roll and support him before predicting he wins 8 this year or he's out before his 3rd
