For those who are enamored with Saban, go back and look at his record as a head coach. I'll save you the trouble.
MSU
95' 6-5
96' 6-6
97' 7-5
98' 9-2
LSU
99' 8-4
00' 10-3
01' 8-5
02' 13-1
03' 9-3
Mia
04' 9-7
05' 6-10
AL
07' 7-6

While he was always a respected coach, it wasn't until 08 that Saban distanced himself from the pack with an undefeated season. Since the he has been lights out. I'm sure the Alabama boosters had nothing to do with that drastic change. But the truth is in his early career Saban did nothing truly remarkable. If he is going to be the measuring stick that we are going to measure our coaches by, then let's make sure we have an accurate picture of who he is.

This thread could be made on 100+ teams boards. Comparing every coach to one that may be the best ever is a fool's errand

His NC at LSU was pretty remarkable. Not to mention when you look at his victories over highly ranked opponents (TN being one of those during his tenure), what he did with LSU was remarkable.

Tack 08' to present on the end of that list and we'll have an accurate picture of who he is, not just the data that makes him look comparable to Butch.

I'll bet you justify the vandy loss with Saban losing to Monroe don't you?

Uh, didn't he win a NC at LSU??

But look at the previous 7 or 8 seasons before his arrival. I think all losing seasons. He totally rebuilt that monster.

The OP is saying that it took Saban a while to find his footing. He was a HC for one year at Toledo, and then went to the NFL. He brought that style of defense to the college game and perfected it. Defense wins championships.

So, Butch is another Saban waiting to happen? Gotcha. :good!:

possibly....look at how long it took Dabo to get going. People are hell bent on instant gratification. Patience goes a long way. If your wife got rid of you the first time you disappointed her in bed, she probably would have never married you.

Jones just finished his 10th season as a head coach, and 4th in the SEC.

When Saban finished his 10th season as a head coach, and 4th in the SEC, he was holding the national championship trophy.

Not afraid to have former HC's on his current staff as assistants...yes, Butch should take notice.
