Maybe I misread the op but the gist of what he wrote made me feel that this AD situation is hurting our efforts *right now* to upgrade our staff. Which would effect recruiting, developing players thereby our winning games next year and beyond etc.

I don't think that your point is appropriate because Butch is attempting to do things to win games but is being limited by people above him. That is a fact not an excuse.

To you and some other's but not a lot of us. Maybe we take into account things that you guys don't? Idk but like it or not everything starts at the top, and I mean the very top. Not the head coach.

So you're telling me Butch assembled a defensive coaching staff that can't get along? Can we blame that on injuries or should we praise him for winning 9 games with such a dysfunctional staff he built?

Well... you must forgive them, they are busy counting the till from record ticket, UT clothing, and concession sales.

They will finish that process soon, and then re-structure fees and ticket prices for 2017... then bring in a new guy to manage their baby.

All this takes time...Butch needs to suck it up.

Yeah, nobody would ever think to hire a coach who took over a dumpster fire of a program on and off the field, restored academics, and delivered back to back Top 25 rankings in Years 3 and 4. I just cannot imagine any AD being crazy enough to hire that coach.

Looking backwards at 2 games to define the present or future isn't conductive to what's going on right now. What you guys keep saying over and over reminds me of the childhood phrase " I know you are but what am I" because obsessing over those 2 games does very little for your anit-Butch cause. Butch should be fired because we lost those 2 games is circular reasoning. Someone could say that he can coach because we beat Virginia Tech, Flordia and Georgia to refute your position very easily.

The whole point of this post is about what is hindering what can be done to correct some of our problems right now and for the future. I don't think that's dumb. I think it's very important and something we need to be aware of.

What is going in the administration is irrelevant to whether he is a great coach.


Losing to USC and Vandy with a division title on the line and then a Sugar Bowl on the line, overwhelmingly suggest that he is not worth our time to keep around.

I believe that the top does have correlation to next year and beyond. I believe that circling back to the Vanderbilt and USC loss not only has nothing to do with what I'm trying to say about upgrading staff etc but is just circular argumentation to further the narrative of fire Butch he can't coach. We can't talk about anything without talking about those two games which have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

a) Butch is reportedly very unhappy with the lack of AD situation. He has been telling people it has been hurting recruiting and OC hire. The internal promotion is not by choice for Butch, rather outsider big candidates' unwillingness to join the staff without some assurance from AD on stability. Butch has been telling local media members during informal communications to look at staff other SEC teams have assembled. His situation is like he is almost taking a knife to a gun fight against Alabama, comparing the supporting staff.

b) Shoop never fully got support from Martinez, Thigpen or Stripling. The three reportedly felt like Shoop undermined their authority with micromanaging things. Things got worse as the season progressed. Stripling will retire, Martinez will be let go. Thigpen might look elsewhere but Shoop and Butch have tried to convince him to stay due to his recruiting powers.

c) After season Butch did look for other options as he was uncertain about his status once new AD was hired. UT higher-ups assured him that he won't be let go upon hire of new AD.

d) Don Mahoney will be let go after signing day. Azzanni is looking elsewhere and will leave after signing day. Larry Scott will be new OC. Butch has tried to do a CO-OC thing with both but Azzanni wants full control of the offense. Funny as Butch wanted to bring a name but he couldn't land one.

e) The media reports of Butch not willing to relinquish control of offense are wrong.

I buy just about all of this but e. Just way too many things out there to make me think otherwise on that one. And in regards to support staff, he could have parted ways with Martinez, Mahoney, Azzani a while back if he really wanted to upgrade support staff.
