Yeah, autocorrect got me. :)

What I hate about this offense is that we sometimes seem to fall into a trap start trying to "steal" yards on first down rather than attack the defense. It's like we're just trying to get 3 yards so we can survive the series of downs.

Considering we require approximately 70 seconds per play during the two minute drill I'm not sure it would have made a difference. The ineptitude was on such a roll at that point we'd have found a way to blow it.

I agree with your sentiment, though.

I can't believe they didn't try to pop a jet sweep or a bubble screen. There was a little too much time left to go into the run the clock/burn their timeouts strategy.

Yes it is. The defense let us down in the Florida game, no doubt. Make no mistake though, our passing game is a major problem. I love our running game, now take advantage of it!

I had that EXCACT conversation with a Tech fan yesterday. We're a thing of beauty when the offense starts rolling downhill, but man it's ugly when we have to throw it.

That is actually a very good point. As I try to stay away from the coaching criticism I did think about that during the game. Not that I had a problem with three straight runs but was looking for a little more creativity. Actually I was screaming for a jet sweep or something that could get us 6 - 8 yards. Those play calls did say that we aren't even trying to get a first down.

But the problem is, like a lot of folks, you find yourself watching the clock in those situations and just praying it moves faster and that's due to the overwhelming feeling that the inevitable is about to happen. Not making excuses, just making observations.

Ha...was just typing that same thing. Screaming for the jet sweep...any evidence that we are actually TRYING to get a first down.

It's OK to run first and pass second if you actually ever pass. You can use the run to open up the passing game but it's only successful if you finally hit a few deep balls. If you continue to misfire on passes they will load the box and force you to pass the ball. That's what we've seen in both 2nd half losses and we haven't been able to beat it. Butch coaches like he's playing Madden and only knows a few running plays. Time for Butch and Dobbs to step outside their comfort zone and pass the ball down the field. No more excuses.

In all likelihood, UT would have needed to hit the middle with the TE (which had been effective) or a cross route behind blitzers. The latter is inexplicably absent from UT's playbook.

UF's speed probably makes any lateral run a high risk play. UT hasn't shown the ability to make big plays with the bubble screen... partly because there's no downfield threat.

A hitch, skinny slant, or quick out could have also been effective... but we don't see those plays either.


Again, I like Dobbs. But if he can't throw those passes then they need to start someone who can.

Their elite DB's were either suspended (Tabor) or hurt (VHIII). We didn't attack their secondary because it wasn't listed on the chart Butch was looking at.:loco:

Absolutely, SPOT ON. Never Ever should have come down to the frikin last possession. We have FL on the ropes and instead of delivering a KNOCK-OUT punch, we danced around the ring and did the rope-a-dope hoping to run out the frikin clock. Who in the F does that?

Like you, I am extra pissed. In fact, in my 30 something years of being a Vol fan....I cannot remember ever being so PO'd.

the season isn't ruined, man get a hold of yourself, its Tuesday, on to the next opponent. i like the previous comment about a beer and hug bro, or a swift kick to the pants, get a hold of yourself and lets support these kids in this upcoming home game against an SEC West team........1-1 is alot better then 0-2 in the SEC race......

So the guy who makes literally every decision associated with the program, individual game plans, and philosophy with how he wants his team to play, who, to date, has clearly shown that he has no desire to throw to and use his very talented WRs.......now says we should use our WRs more?? As though he isn't the sole reason why we haven't been using our WRs? For crying out loud.

Key words .. in the 4th quarter. Loosening them up earlier might have been the more prudent option. Why wait til that point ... offense needs to be more balanced. We are not running the wishbone.

I enjoy reading your insight. You thoughts are so different from mine it challenges me.

Isn't the more time argument only valid because of what happened after we saw how the game eventually played out? There is no way to know if things would have been called differently if CJM had more time. It's kinda like blackjack in a way. Every card played effects the odds of winning or losing as the rest of the deck is played.

I don't know many coaches that throw in that situation. But, i admit my bias in that i am partial to a run heavy, ball control, run the clock style. I'm not sure this style of play works in today's world.

He had more passing at UC, than here. Last year was better than this.

Why do you think this year he has avoided the pass plays we know could be effective?
