Notes: Tennessee Vols want 'receiver-oriented offense'

Butch notes that we didn't use our WRs vs Florida and that shouldn't be the norm....
My opinion:
He doesn't want lack of wide receivers to be the norm? It's a little late for that Butch! Oh after the season is ruined you state you don't want that to be the norm! SMH @ Butch and the Old Man.... Maybe you should have been discussing how to use your elite stable of wide receivers rather than making recruiting visits while in Florida. Go coach Middle School Butch where they still play with legos and bricks and such!

Saw that too. It was definitely a "well, duh!" moment. I'm not sure if they just forgot that we have WRs, or if they saw something in the UF defense that made them think it would be ineffective, but I agree it needs to change from here on out.

I'm beginning to wonder if they game plan off of what's discussed on message boards

I don't have a problem with Butch recruiting on a Friday night. What I do have a problem with is our coach's denial that his coaching was the issue on Saturday. I'm not sure anyone is buying his apologies. According to Butch, our coaching staff did a great job on the final drive to put our team in a position to win.

Florida has possibly the best DBs in college football, they are loaded with NFL talent at that position.

And we ran for 254 yards against Florida. I'd say the staff did a great job of game planning for our offense, matching our strengths to their weakenesses and vice versa.

Hell, we put together a 7:30 drive in the fourth quarter power-running the ball with Jalen.

And in case you missed it, there were late passes over the middle in the game too.

Could there have been more? Maybe. But did you really want Dobbs, a QB we all have questions about as a passer, throwing into the teeth of the best secondary in the SEC??? :loco:

Did you know the 2012 Cincinnati Bearcats averaged 250+ passing yards per game?

Football is football. He knows how to use WR plays.

What does he see in practice which or game planning which makes us avoid WR plays?

Trust the QB and WR. There is talent out there. Don't go into a shell. If you get hit in the mouth, hit back....unless you get knocked out, then hit back later.

For obvious things like this my Grandpa used to say: "No shoo shoo, Sherlock!." Except he didn't say shoo shoo.

Elite receivers dropping 3rd down conversions might have changed the plan . Who knows

Truth be told, it should not have even come to the final drive. That is what has me extra pissed.

Tabor was suspended and VH was playing really stiff from being hurt all night. We didn't even attack when he left the game.

Well Arkansas is dead last in the SEC in stopping the pass, so this might just be the week to try out this new fangled forward pass I keep hearing about.

Texas A&M was throwing with such efficiency, running the ball might have slowed momentum. Aggies quarterback Kyle Allen finished with 358 yards and moved the Razorbacks into last place in the SEC in stopping the pass. - See more at: Hogs Season Won?t Be Like 2012, Bielema Says | Arkansas News

That question is what scares me. You don't playcall that close to the vest for no apparent reason.

Who are you and how did you get titansvolsfaninga's password?

Seriously, you nailed it.

Jones has said before that he wanted a WR oriented O... and often. But he isn't acting on it and there's more than enough talent. If I were in his shoes, Dobbs would have thrown the ball 60 times vs WCU.

Very simple suggestion... though I've been assured many times that I lack football knowledge for criticizing the coaches. Increase Dobbs drop and move the pocket... maybe waggle plays? When Dobbs takes a deeper drop, coach him NOT to break the pocket toward the sideline if he gets outside pressure. He needs to step into the pocket and deliver a throw.

The QB set up point for UT is too predictable. They make it easy for pass rushers and hard for OL's when they do that.
