Butch says it takes 6 to 7 years to build a program in the SEC

Jake, while I do agree with you on the beat FLA "requirement"...I think that the season is a bust if we don't. This year, if we had gone 11-1 with that 1 loss to FLA, we still would NOT have won the SEC east, played for the SEC in ATL, or had a shot at the Playoffs.

I also think that the other SEC schools will continue to improve and become more and more competitive.

Can a Butch Jones team win year after year in a strong SEC? Well, he hasn't really won in a down SEC...YET.

This year, with all the injuries, and the excuses, we still should have been, at worst, 10-2.

2016 year should be better right?

A down SEC? One of the down teams has been UT. The big elephant in the room that you and others are missing is that UT is climbing up the ladder.

If Butch were to go with only one or two losses next year wonder how much he'll soak the program for? 6 million?

here's what i'd say....as for the down SEC East, we're a big reason it was down. so i don't hold it against him for not "winning" in a down SEC east thus far, since he was brought in to get us up off the bottom of a bad division.

i agree, other programs, UGA, UF, MO, USC are all making moves to get better. i think the SEC E is on the way back up. it will get harder. this though is in reaction to, at least in part, to the fact TN is on the way back up.

Can butch jones win year after year....good question, and i guess it depends on your definition of said winning.

i think next year presents a very good opportunity to win the East. i think we're slightly ahead in the arms race. that gap, though, will close soon.

after that, if he's getting 9 to 10 wins a year, or averaging 9, winning the east every other couple/three years, then i'd say he's having a very successful career here. for me we don't have to respond to these losing streaks with winning streaks in kind. we just have to stop these and make these "rivalries" more competitive year in and year out. win 2, lose 1, lose 2, win 1....3-3 over a 6 year span against UF and/or Bama...yeah, i'd take that right now considering where Bama is in the landscape of CF, and where FL seems to be heading. we're headed in that direction too, so there should be some competitive balance at the top.

i've been on record on how i feel about Butch and the OU and FL games in particular. but i'm done going back and saying what should have been. all that matters is what is. and we are 8-4, 2nd in the east with a chance to beat a top 15 opponent on a NYD bowl and get to 9 wins.

next year, i think 10-2 is reasonable expectation.

however, beating FL chief among the goals for team 120.

If he doesn't beat FL or ALA mission not accomplished.

There is no doubt in my mind. This team is going to explode next season. Barring crazy injures or idiotic off season issues UT will stomp the competition next season. It's going to happen. Book it

Only if you're reading it and pretending to be mentally challenged.

So this applies to nobody else but Butch? He should be the only coach to get that much time because of what? Is it because he is so good he managed to lose to Dooley head to head, or because he managed to blow 3 games that were already won this year?

i'm firmly on record w/how i feel about the FL game next year.

That's facts and if facts antagonize a person then perhaps they should consider their thought process. LOL
no.

Really? 12 wins and it's a blank check?
well, it'd be hard to do better than undefeated.....

you obviously haven't heard or read the exact conversation or don't understand the context of it in relation to what was said.

i'm going to come back to this thread every 3-5 pages and repost the cliff notes version for people. jeez.

If we win the NC it's Katy bar the door. Give Butch whatever he's asking for?

not sure what you're driving at here. make your point, let's stop with all the cloak and dagger....

what are you wanting to get at already?

So Butch is making the case we should have kept Dooley for another 3-4 years.

The program was regressive under Dooley. He was let go for the losses, and clear lack of direction.

Under Dooley's reign, in 6 or 7 years the program would be lucky to get 3 or 4 wins a season.

It's clear under Butch the program is trending upward.
