Butch postgame interview

"But we had an opportunity. It was a run-pass option. They were playing some different things coverage-wise, bracket-wise, man coverage on the goal line, so we liked it. Jarrett had the opportunity to run the football and that's what we decided to call and we didn't execute it."

Sounds like he's throwing his redshirt freshmen QB making his first start under the bus

"Didn't execute it"

That chaps me!! These stupid extensions and buy out clauses are ridiculous... if you can't get it done, bow out gracefully and not be greedy getting something for nothing. Leaves the cupboard bare for the next guy which is how we got butch after dools, if l remember coerectly.

And which elite coaches do you suppose that we'll be able to sign to $0 buyout contracts? Just wondering.

95k announced

Count is irrelevant. This year's tickets are paid for, people will go now to take kids for a couple quarters or to see the band. I'm sure there will be plenty of cheap or free tickets available now.

And really the gate is not the be all end all it used to be. The SEC Network contract brings way more cash into the bank than attendance. No one could show up and the athletic department still gets paid.

Don't fire him. Give him a desk until March and use an interim until we find Moses.

I think this is the best possible decision.

Relieve him of his coaching duties and pay him until his buyout takes the ramp down in (I think, March 18). And, offer him to any downscale school like Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), Ball State, etc ... and subsidize their offer with the UT buyout. We get rid of him and can spread the pmts while landing him somewhere ELSE.

In the interim, hire a real coach.

"a lot of times winning football games comes down to winning your individual matchups".

NO SH#T BUTCH!! And Muschamp has been winning ya'lls for six years straight!

That one really made me want to pull my hair out. A "lot of times," Butch? Football is based on beating the guy in front of you every single snap, every down. Don't you realize that?

Look at our invisible receivers. They are getting pressed at the line just about every snap and beaten. They can't fight their way through press jamming at the line. They can't separate and get open.

And how many times did our DL and OL just get used and owned yesterday because they couldn't beat the man in front of them?

These kids continue to play hard for Butch and that's a credit to him. But they are soft. I would take Fulmer back as interim HC in a heartbeat. They would not stay soft.

It seems to me that a sensible HC would completely open up the playbook and clear the benches for the rest of the season. Shoop should rotate 30 players. We should be rotating 10 on the OL alone.

You can't build depth if you don't play the twos and threes. Play em now and you might go 7-5 and go to a bowl and save your job...unless you lose to Vandy. You are most certainly gone if that happens.

But I have yet to see a 7-5 team this season.

If I'm Butch, I'm thinking at this point "what do I have to lose? And I might actually find some playmakers who have been riding the pine."

Not a chance he'll do that, of course. He will get even more conservative now.

You are assuming that Butch thinks like this. With his job on the line yesterday, he should have been super aggressive on O. And yet ... <yawn>.

Paul Finebaum said he sat next to Butch at a presser and noted that Butch is like a deer who is caught in the headlights. He's frozen up and has no idea what to do.

That's who is coaching the Vols.

I wish he would just come out and say we played like crap and admit we have to fix these problems. Stop sugar coating it. One thing I look forward to with the new coaching staff is not hearing resiliency said over and over anymore.

One thing I admired about Steve Spurrier was when his team lost he would put most of the blame on himself. Very seldom did he use the team as an excuse. I don't think I've heard Jones admit any coaching mistakes yet.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see this Admin wait to see if he wins 8 games with a bowl win and retain his services.
Not sure this is a football school anymore.

Is it me, or does CBJ and Bob Kesling get on th BJ Show each week and act like we didn't just lose. They show our 3 decent plays over and over again and CBJ talks about the teams resolve and resiliency.

You would be shocked at what school Presidents think these days.

In by-gone days, football was how you advertised the school. Nowadays, it's cheaper to do other things with the same results.

I've heard more than one say, "What are we talking about? 500 kids? I have more important things to worry about. Just don't lose money and I'm good."

Exactly. this admin would be Ecstatic if we were #1 in the Debate team world and last in football as long as we put 70000 in the stands and break even.

Problem is that folks think selling their tickets equals not using them. Still butts in seats and concession

A large % of tickets are already paid for in 2017. Not sure what 2018 holds. I'd guess 40-50k die hards maybe more. I'm sure, in time, someone on here will do the math. I can't say if the AD is feeling the pinch yet or if they ever will. I wouldn't want to be in their position.

There's nothing to talk about. The wheels have come off. The only question is the admins strategy at this point. Do they cut bait Monday or use him for a free sacrificial lamb in Tuscaloosa before doing it?

No way they will send an interim coach to play the #1 team in the Nation; Currie's presser will come unless a miracle happens Oct. 21, 2017 !!! Interim coach will lead the Vols into Lexington, KY Oct. 28, 2017 !!!
