Butch Playing it Smart

Houston passing game makes UT look like a high school football team

Houston is good, small but fast dline, great execution on offense which by the way their running back lines up just like Hurd, beside or behind depending on pass or run, but Ward Jr can sling it

I think butch may have a gambling addiction bc if you didn't know any better it looks like he's trying to lose w play calls

Ok, Debord/Jones has too much talent in the backfield to be conservative. Let the guys do what they are capable of! JMO

Anybody see the Outback Bowl v. Big 10 #4 NW? It was a track meet.

Dobbs' read-option has been the best offense we've had since Casey Clausen and one no SEC team has stifled for 60 mintues -- including Alabama twice.

Did we just forget how to run it all of a sudden?

Nope.

Were you asleep or just high during Bray/Chaney's years here?

I made a comment about Jones being at a recruits game last night in the RF,I got ran off the board, lol. I just said I hope he doesn't give no advice to the offense.

I'm not a fan of trying to be vanilla and hide or save things for other, presumably tougher opponents. How about just run what you run and get so good at executing it with superior athletes that it doesn't matter whether or not the bad guys know what's coming? If you wanna hold back on a couple of "trick plays" and save em for your bigger rivals, like we did with Florida last year then ok, that seems sensible.

But otherwise, just go get real good and confident with your system and go run it no matter who the opponent is IMO. If we just tried the other way vs App State, to hold back evidently only run about 5 or 6 total plays out of the offense, I'd say the results were a great reason to never do that again. Jmo.

Agree...I generally back our coaches but at least run our bowl game offense...teams have tape on it.

You have missed the point. That's a coach that has his team ready to play from the first whistle. They are executing plays. They look like they have been here before, even with second team players.

1. Hawaii sucks butt.

2. Hawaii literally JUST got back from Australia.

3. As said earlier, App would blast Hawaii. So would we.

They r the favorite to win the sec in my opinion. They have upgraded in every aspect of the team from last year. Logically it doesn't make sense that they would regress.

All that's logical, but you never know. I recently heard Swain talk about the 2005 team. That team should've been able to build upon an excellent 2004, but he said the chemistry and leadership just wasn't there. I don't think that's gonna happen this year, that we're gonna repeat a similar season to 2005, but there certainly didn't appear to be much leadership or chemistry on the field on Thursday night. Hope we do a complete 180 vs VaTech and all these questions are put to rest.

Agree with this.

Deboring needs to watch Houstons plays against Oklahoma. Use your receivers for more than blocking otherwise don't recruit them!

This game is showing us why Tee Higgins is going to Clemson. We have two 5* WRs in the starting lineup and you would never know it with our idiotic scheme.

With all of the excesses made about how great of a team Appalachian State is we don't stand a chance in conference play. With the recruiting classes we have had we should have handled business. Out played out couched out gameplaned. Plan and simple.

Not one jet sweep.

Not one bubble screen.

Only 1 deep ball.

These are staples of out offense.

Suddenly we forgot how to run them?

Nope.

There's an entire year's worth of film of the offense with this personnel available. If they were trying to hide the playbook when they were trailing the whole night, they're even dumber than I thought.

Then you're saying the app st D is better than the SEC teams we ran these plays on? And Northwestern?

Yeah, play it to where you almost lose, look like a turd sandwich as a team, and probably drop in the rankings. Yeah, that's playing it smart...

Why don't you regale us with when you coached at the Division 1 level. (insert crickets chirping) Its one freakin game and we WON. What part of 1-0 can your pea brain not grasp? :furious3:

Sick of reading these dumb excuses.

I have never understood the psychology of denial.

Same people that wanted Dooley to get a 4th year are the ones with these excuses about our offense.

As if we have never had Dave Cuttclife and seen what a good Tennessee offense looks like.

Butch/Debord clearly took out half the playbook v AppSt.

How many read-options did Dobbs run?

I don't remember any.

It was risky, but was clearly on purpose.

That shows how stupid they are. Real teams just roll up and beat scrubs and not have to "take half the plays out." You're just as crazy if you believe that..

Good luck with that.
