Butch Playing it Smart

No it's never your strategy to be that close. But they only installed very few plays thinking they could muscle through it and it almost back fired. There is no such thing as holding back plays. You install plays based on your opponent. Against Virginia tech they will have all the plays open

Thanks for your input. I was 8 years old in 2001 in the Swamp. I'll never forget that night, thanks for the memories.

Look they came out with a W, and no one is hurt. The game is behind them. On to Virginia tech.

Do u think this team is still the sec east favorite?

Also u should have a blog on here or something and break down games.

You bring a lot of value to the board.

Thanks.

They r the favorite to win the sec in my opinion. They have upgraded in every aspect of the team from last year. Logically it doesn't make sense that they would regress.

Butch/Debord clearly took out half the playbook v AppSt.

How many read-options did Dobbs run?

I don't remember any.

It was risky, but was clearly on purpose.

What was the purpose? So opposing coaches would have to go back to 2015 to see our exact same players running the exact same offense we'll be running this year?

If that's the purpose, I don't see what we benefit. Everyone knows what we'll do with Dobbs at qb.

They also just played in Australia.

Michigan has #78 strength of schedule based on last year's W-L records.
App St (which owned Michigan when they were FCs) was 11-2 and conf champ. last year.
Hawaii was 3-9, and unranked Cal hung 630 on them last week.

Apples and oranges.
Plus, no team with a big flat-footed QB is going to be in the playoffs.

Why hold back the first game? They can watch video of 2015 and see the same players and plays called. Only thing that should have been held back was anything new put in since the bowl game. Amirite? Don't understand that.

I dont think they were holding back. I cant wait to see what you have to say when we run the same bullsh!t offense against VT.

Funny, I don't see Ohio State, Michigan, and Louisvile playing it safe with their openers. Guess Butch is smarter than Meyer, Harbaugh, and Petrino

Are you saying that by running the read-option we don't open up more throwing lanes? Of course we do.
All you have to know is that we didn't run it, and it's not likely bc the likes of App State has figured out a way to stop it and so we backed off it.

the problem is you can't call it a read option if the QB doesn't ever keep and run it, and Dobbs did not ... I saw very few passes and a lot of our large road paver RB running slow developing plays where he got met by at least 2 defenders at the line of scrimmage and tackled... we didn't make any adjustments for the Defensive speed we were encountering and should have put in our speed backs to offset...

How many experienced Vol fans believe Butch Jones is playing it smart?

Are you buying, or selling?

believe it or not, I really think Kelly would have done a better job getting us yards along with Kamara with their speed, quickness, and slice and dice running capability... Hurd is the "man", but was not suited for the defense we played/the way our O line was getting owned...

No. We weren't holding back, vanilla play calling, yada, yada, yada.

We just played lousy football. Hopefully, this will wake some people up. If not, then we be 7-5 again and Butch is on hot seat next year.

Kamara had no where to run, just like Hurd? Appalachian State's Dline took the Vols Oline to the woodshed, plain and simple

Deboring needs to watch Houstons plays against Oklahoma. Use your receivers for more than blocking otherwise don't recruit them!
