Butch on DeBord

What I find amazing is that someone in the media will ask or hint at whether a certain coach may or may not be canned and expect said coach who is asked to say "Yes I am firing him" in public.

Are all media folks that stupid and insensitive or just those that cover Tennessee?

He better fire Mahoney after the season. Debord I guess he can point at the numbers and say he's been fine, but Mahoney has yet to field a competent line in his 4 years here. The first 2 years were because they were the wrong kind for the system, and now he's had 4 years to bring in the players to fit his style of play and we still have an absolute garbage Oline. Then you get into who he plays over players that are clearly better, or are at least giving their all when they do get a chance. There is ZERO reason Jack Jones shouldn't be starting.

I have no opinion on whether Debord should stay or go.

But, y'all may not be reading Butch's comment right.

He didn't say he'd be here as long as Butch is here. He didn't even say he'd be here next year.

He said he "wants to continue coaching" with him "as long as he can."

That could be interpreted a number of different ways. As long as he can tolerate him? As long as Debord wants to be here before he retires? As long as he can before boosters and the AD force him to make a change?

When was that? Peterman? We haven't been stocked at QB talent until recently, but I'm pretty confident with either guy for next year. Our woes are more on the lousy OLine play and everywhere on defense. Shoop has consistently had top defenses until he got here. He needs to fire some position coaches that aren't doing their jobs.

Worely as well. Like I said, if you can consistently recruit the prototypical QB it takes to run this kind of offense, great. However once you're put in a position where you don't have that, you're screwed!

Anybody can look ABSOLUTELY fabulous calling plays against our last 3 opponents..........but the GREAT ones can call and design plays vs superior talent. Our plays look really good vs TTech, Kentucky, & Mizzou, but what about Bama, A&M, & Georgia, Florida.......didn't look sooo good and very predictable.........

Were pretty good against all but Bama but down 4 OL can put a dent in a game plan. But hey don't let facts stand in the way of your agenda.

Are you crazy? 2nd in conference in scoring! We rolled up points against A&M and that mighty Florida defense. That 2nd half was probably the most dynamic half of offensive football I've seen in a long time and against a great defense no less.

This is the world we live in. 2nd in the freaking league in scoring and people want the offensive coordinator fired. It really is laughable.

Butch just said he wants to continue coaching with #Vols OC Mike DeBord as long as he can.

Possible translation "I will sink or swim next year with Mike Debord".

Unlike some, I lack telepathic powers and can't read coaches minds, but that's what it sounds like to me. :p

You all do know the following; don't you?

1. Alabama 443 points, who is 2nd in SEC Tennessee 401 points
2. Most points scored against Florida this year -- Tennessee 38
3. 2nd most points scored against Georgia -- Tennessee 34, Only Ole Miss more 45
4. Most points scored against Kentucky -- Tennessee 49
5. Most points scored against Missouri -- Tennessee 63
6. Most points scored against Texas A&M -- Tennessee 38

I don't think offense is a big problem. Do you?

Well we are ranked 114th in Turnovers Lost..... That isn't the defense's fault.

Butch is teeing them up nicely for all the naysayers today.

Maybe Debord can hire him as his OC at Delaware.

Butch has too much history with, and too much respect for, Debord to fire him. Butch will say he plans on working with Debord as long as he can, he love the guy, owes him a lot, in the meantime Debord will announce his retirement to spend more time with his family or move back to wherever. Win-win allows everyone to move on with dignity.

I've never had the feeling that Debord was intended to be some long-term answer for Butch. It's always felt like Butch wanted someone in the booth who knew his stuff and would be loyal to him personally, while he also wanted a chance to kind of honor Debord for what all he has done for Butch. Mission accomplished.
Spot on....it would never be a fire. Debord isn't half bad anyway and we're better set on offense during this REBUILD going into next year but need to add to OL. It would be more like Debord is leaving for NFL or retirement....while on the subject i'm gonna keep pushing my favorite idea, Anthony Lynn for OC or HC. I'd like to think that it would be a pre-arranged deal if Debord leaves for any reason and give UT a jump on the competition as to a possible new hire but the announcement would be made after NSD. GO BIG ORANGE !!!!!:twocents:
