"Butch needs a common sense coach" -Clay Travis

how is a filth laden article allowed to be put out there like this?

Kids may read this. Travis is an idiot.

Can't be any worse than watching Butch Jones in late game situations, I almost felt the need to cover my 5 year old niece's eyes in the fourth quarter.

Article is spot on.

However, I do agree with the point an earlier post said about Jones being fired right now ending in nothing but disaster. I would rather have Jones, knowing his contract expires in 2 years over firing him this year, having a buyout to pay, and most likely ending up with yet another budget hire that will be in over their heads. As long as the recruiting stays in the top 10-15, that will be more than ample talent for a more able successor to come in and take the foundation and go somewhere with it.

Unlikely that recruiting even finishes in Top 20 this year. This is the first time Butch is being heavily scrutinized by the media due to his gross mismanagement in two BIG games. Recruits will notice and commit to a winner which Butch is not based on his record @ TN

eh, the thing reads more like a rant than a report or editorial. i could have done w/out all the venom.

that said, there were some interesting tid bits...

This means with 1:26 left on the clock and two timeouts, Tennessee was able to run a total of four plays in their two minute offense and was forced to take both timeouts to avoid two ten second run off penalties. (This rule, by the way, was put in place because of the way Derek Dooley lost to North Carolina in the Music City Bowl. Meaning Tennessee narrowly avoiding becoming the first team to lose because the rule didn't exist and then also becoming the first team to lose because the rule existed.

This year in college football there have been 191 games where one team has had a 13 point or more lead in the fourth quarter. The leading team has won 188 of these games, the losing team has won three times. Two of those times have happened to Tennessee,
:banghead2:

Jones should have begun his press conference by saying this, "The players won this game and I lost it. Put this one entirely on me."
Agreed.

Clay is right about everything he said, and I can't stand him. I love Butch as a salesman, he can make you listen, I like him as a coach. But he needs to get a guy who can help him win in the 4th. CMD is not the answer, he is running a terribly unbalanced offense; my 10 year old kid was calling his plays during the game.

I give Butch a buy, but he has to see his deficiencies and change what he is allowing to happen.

I am over him saying that this team needs to close out games, the kids won these games, we had the better team twice this year. The staff needs to learn how to win.

I would have to say he is spot on with that article.

The thing I dont understand about the series before Florida scored and we ran the ball 3 straight times .............................Florida was in a all out rush, the way to stop that is just throw the quick slant to the slot receiver inside.......or to the tight end short after he releases the DE and the QB just throws over the DE's head............these two plays slow down the oncoming bullrushes of the defensive line and later gives the QB more time to throw.................we only needed one first down.

But we never saw that. Deboard has 5 star receivers and never used them, the old hack is way behind, he was unemployed for a reason.

SMH

I love the idea of a common sense coach lol

Also, the only way to avoid doing stupid things late in the game is to blow people out to the point where you don't get close games.

100% was. Yes, he does try to be over the top to build his brand, but if you would have seen his immediate Periscope "presser" after the game, it was very clear where his allegiance lies. He was not smirking, or giddy, or anything of the sort. He was genuinely ticked. That reaction I saw does not fit the narrative of the guy who loves to kick the Vols while they're down.

Also saw a picture of him (I believe Eddie George tweeted it) at the end of the 2013 Georgia game, in the "loser's cobra" and looking as bewildered as anyone.

Two short examples, I know, but I think a live reaction after a tough loss is more telling than something he might, admittedly, "write for clicks," under normal circumstances.

Lastly, yes he went to Vandy law after growing up in the midstate, but that doesn't change the fact that the vast majority around Nashville grow up Vols like I did. I would have chosen Vandy law over UT law too if I could've gotten in. Wouldn't have changed a couple decades of loyalty.

Whew, didn't set out to type all that. Just gets frustrating seeing people hate him for making jokes at our expense from time to time, because he's an equal opportunity offender. He makes fun of everybody. Like another poster said though, I fear his satire and logic goes over peoples' heads usually.

Clay's grandfather played for Neyland, I believe he was on the '51 team. He was born and raised a Vol.

It's not drama to refuse to give clicks to a guy who built his career kicking my Alma mater when it was at its lowest point. The guy is a self serving clown making money by bashing UT.

You are very right. He is a grade-A douche who is trying to forget that he was a Vandy fan for the past few years. Unfortunately, this is probably the best article I've read on the game so far. I have to agree with most things he said, despite him having the presentation skills of a 10 year old throwing a tantrum.

I still like Butch, and think it is way too early for any of this talk our fanbase is rampant about. We act like Butch is the first coach to make bad coaching decisions in crunch time. Plenty of good coaches have had games like this. If he learns how to make adjustments and wins games then no one will remember.

Too early to be calling him our Ron Zook. But if he wants to fire Mike DeBord that'd be alright.

I like CBJ and think as a whole we're a better team than before he arrived but for the love of winning Vol football Butch, dont let Barb keep your balls at home on game day ever again!

Clay Travis nailed it in that article. CBJ is lost on the sidelines during the games unless it's against a lesser opponent.

Born and raised a Vol, until we were at our lowest and he did nothing but trash our program and our fans...while simultaneously remembering that he is actually a Vandy (Law) alum and declaring that James Franklin craps gold.

Who hasn't trashed us since we fell off the college football map? We deserve the criticism and he's completely on point with this article.

The problem with Travis is he's a mercenary who jumps on hot bandwagons and rides them until they die, then jumps off right before it stops. He was all-UT until Fulmer was fired, kind of low key during Kiffin's year, then came out anti-Dooley. And it's not just that he was anti-Dooley, he essentially became anti-UT at that point too, because he became pro-James Franklin. He even rubbed it in UT's face when Franklin beat Jones in 2013.

He jumped off the VU bandwagon when Mason turned out to be a dud last year, and this year with the buzz about Butch Jones and UT, he jumped back on the UT bandwagon, only for this weekend to immediately jump back off and now is apparently going after Jones like he did Dooley. That's not to say he's wrong about what he wrote, but keep in mind Travis has no loyalty. He did the same crap with UT basketball, loving it when Pearl was there but after he was fired, he went anti-UT and pro-Auburn.

I'll say it for the millionth time...Butch Jones is an IDIOT! This article sums it up and reaffirms what I'm feeling. UT will never be a champion under this unprepared moron.

He is mostly on point in this article. However, when you go from a self-proclaimed die hard fan of a program to completely trashing every single facet of said program I've got a problem with it. Probably why I have a problem with 95% of the posters on the site.

With his buyout, whatever job he lands next will be suntracted by what he makes at the new job. Thus reducing his buyout. So if he makes 1 million his buyout would be 1 million per year. If he makes more obviously less.
