Butch mis-understood!

Butch started his press conference with a rather dickish move: He scolded the media (and others) for talking a lot about it being a must-win game for him and the program. He seemed to take offense at that. I generally like the guy--but he's becoming yet another coach who doesn't like criticism and who is going to crack on people who aren't sufficiently optimistic or boosterish about the team. I'm beginning to dislike him as he's another guy who doesn't understand either the media or fans. This is big-time sports, Butch: if you can't take some flak you are in the wrong industry.

I kinda get where he's coming from. It's a big win and should be celebrated but it's not the goal. The goal is the sec championship.....which includes beating the gators.

Just my take on it.

Good grief..... It's america.... Say what you want to say...... Except **** like this after a big win.... You are on the DA of the day ballot now

Not surprised by this. He seems incapable of handling being second guessed. He may very well find himself in similar spot if he does not become self-aware. It's early in the season and we've got 3 key games directly ahead and USCe and Mizzu aren't planning on forfeiting either. Long-term concerns are all still there for me. I hope he has my name on that back pocket list he carries. I still doubt his ability. I'm elated with this win, though, so I'm doing my best to not let any doubts interfere. This post game "scolding" is going to bring me down from my high though. That first half was abysmal and the two games against cupcakes (appy and ohio) were unacceptably boorish form a playcalling perspective. Good coaches don't hide playbooks or coach down to opponents. I'm sure the jones crowd will use this "signature win" as justification of silencing any and all forms of criticism. Fact is, we should have won that game (and we did, thankfully). Superior talent, more experience, home field advantage, UF back-up qb, etc. I'm super happy for the win but it may be a pyrrhic victory if it gives jones an excuse to remain stubborn and not seek improvement as a coach. No coach will last in the SEC if they don't improve. Demands are too high and other schools' coaches will improve or be replaced.

Boo-birds suck! If you're booing our team, you're not a real fan! You can claim you're "booing the coaches" or some other garbage, what you're really doing is making life more difficult for our guys.

This is the Tennessee Vols. Not the Philadelphia Eagles. You should always support our team regardless of the coaches, your personal ill-informed opinions, or the playcalling. Leave the criticisms till after the game.

Butch said the players could have folded when they heard the boo's at halftime. We were not booing the players, we were booing the coaching decisions and play calling. It was also Fulmeresk(sp?) to be down three scores and let time run off the clock without trying to run a play or trying to score. Don't pit the fans against the players. I don't believe the fans have ever!!! booed the players.

Its Fulmeresque, I invented the term.

Kudos to you. At least one person can understand an apparently unique perspective.

Sorry for the spelling ignorance. I should have looked it up.

I'm out.

I would agree if a change could be made without being vocal with your displeasure. If fans accept an unacceptable product on the field, than that product will remain. Thankfully, we saw a much better product in the second half. Florida is no juggernaut any more and we beat them at home. While it's great to get the monkey off our back I'd wait until the rest of the season plays out before you assume everything is rainbows and sunshine. We looked like hot garbage for all but 4-5 quarters this season. Teams (and coaches) will know not to get complacent in the second half against us the rest of the season. Hopefully we use the momentum to get better and start playing 60 minutes instead of getting behind or playing down to competition. But I am excited for the win today. Very excited. I just don't see it as a cure all.

Hypocrite much?

I don't see anything hypocritical in what I've said. I've called out several butchites for being, what I believe, are shills for jones, as they appear to support him above the program. JohnD13 and VolFreakJosh are two of several I identified as UTAD shills. UT beating UF doesn't alter that view and doesn't make those individuals any less AD sycophants. They support jones win or lose.

I expressed joy over our victory. It's the biggest win we've had since probably 2007, if not longer. But I don't see anything that convinces me that CBJ is an elite coach. Rather, it reflects just how far our program has dropped that this win is believed to silence all doubt. UF has the same record as us since 2013 entering the game today!

I said before the game I expected a win. If UT fans are to become acceptant of a coach that will get us 8-to-9, maybe 10 on a good year, victories a year, than perhaps we've found our guy. I hope I'm wrong bc a change would likely mean continued turmoil for our program. But I do not fear a staff change if it becomes apparent we have a coach who is unwilling to improve his style and philosophy of play. Again, I hope I am wrong. I also have no confidence in our UTAD making a great hire, so i'm not confident replacing jones would lead to better results anyway. As I've said in other posts, we haven't had a successful coaching hire in any major sport since Dickey retired (IMO). Instead, I believe we have an AD content to bring on mid-tier conference coaches in all major sports and rack in money from the avid vol fan support UT has always enjoyed. Thus, we as fans get short-changed in sport after sport. This is all JMO, though. Again, I'd love to be wrong about jones. Him beating UF at home with the stacked roster he's recruited will not change my view. It'll take way more than that. This should be a playoff caliber team based on experience and talent.

Lol you've been on spin control ever since this win. As someone else posted to another guy... You've had plenty of opportunities to apologize for being a douche but you're too proud to do so. Think highly of yourself and think lowly of a coach on a 10 game streak.

You "expressed joy?" To be honest, that sounds a little manufactured. But I'm running a underground organization to squash negative public opinion of the staff, so what do I know.

Then stop booing the coaching staff! He made the absolute right call. If Hurd breaks a bigger run there then you try something, but it didn't happen so you don't do anything stupid. It was the right call.

Why not take a knee rather than hand to Hurd? Less chance for a mistake!

I've never seen so many pissed off fans of a 4-0 team that just ended a terrible streak that looked dangerously close to being extended. They didn't play their best football the first half and to start the second half, but they pulled it off! That was the very definition of "never give up". It would have been so easy to stay in that locker room and let the game get away, to give you nega vols even more to complain about, but they came out and showed us what they are capable of. You guys are just going to have to swallow your pride and admit you were wrong about this game, about this team. After all, it was the same players and coaches that went in at half time and came out after half time. This is very exciting. GET BEHIND THIS TEAM OR GTFO!

Did he say specifically y'all were booing the players? Booing the team is still booing the team, and the effect is still the same. I've never griped at players unless they were idiots, but if I trash the coaches I'm still trashing the team and it's not supportive in a dire moment.

what did I say that makes me distraught? I mean thinking back on all the crap about Dobbs can't throw, O-line can't block, defense gives up too many big plays. You can't say that now. It was all proven wrong tonight. If anything would make me distraught it's reading the stuff some people say on here. Is it so hard to not just simply get behind this team?

Maybe, but the difference in the first an second halves was the way the players played. The players had to have been coached to play the way they did in the second half. Execution in the second half vs no execution in the first half.

I saw some drinks thrown at our sideline right before half. Some players turned around and yelled at the stands. I can understand fan frustration, but that's not excuseable.
