Butch: "Mark my words..."

You better enjoy getting let down every year then. Replacing Jones won't change that for anyone. You're delusional to think otherwise.

You lost all sensible credibility when you mentioned Kiffin as a suitable replacement for Butch anyways. If you like him so much go be a Bama fan.

Not winning the east sucks sure, but not making a solid effort regardless sucks even more. Team 120 should be proud of themselves for their achievements this year. A nine game winning streak, beating Florida, likely finishing this season with a better record than last season, and going to a good post season bowl game.

I don't call that a complete success but calling this season a failure is an insult to the entire team, not just the coaches.

Really? Kiffin is leading yet another 1st year starter QB (freshman at that) into the playoffs for yet ANOTHER shot at a National Championship. His offense has been dropping deuces all over Lyle's teams, who after 4 years has about 3 quality wins.

But I'm the dummy for suggesting an alternative to the guy telling you he wasn't shooting for an East championship, must less an SEC or NC. Good grief...

Sure they did. Right. And Butch is so close to winning a title... Okay.

Butch can't even win the crappiest East division in its history. These people that believe he is going to be successful after this year bringing in 3* with awful coordinators & being on the hot seat is laughable.

I would ask the same thing of you...what kind of fan is ok with this staff's performance & total lack of understanding as to why we should demand better?

Well first of all a fan cheers for his team's success not failure. You must've missed that day in class. And second of all your analysis of the coaching staff is wrong and based off of 0.01% facts and 99.9% hot flashes and hormones. Bottom line is I see where we have succeeded and I see where we've failed. The success outnumbers the failures up to this point and the improvement is obvious in the W-L column. The fact that you can't be happy about any of that is deeply troubling. Deeply. Troubling. That's why it is a fair question to ask where your allegiance lies.

I came in to the year expecting and was going to be happy with a 10-2 regular season(predicted losses to A&M and Bama), whether that meant an East title(though I thought it likely would) or not. I didn't expect to lose Sutton, JRM, Kirkland, and everyone else we lost when predicting that record. That was a prediction made with the idea of a healthy roster.

In turn, we're likely to go 9-3. The South Carolina loss being disappointing, injuries or no injuries. But firing a coach based off of 1 game would be a bit on the silly side to me.

I don't think Butch is perfect, and who knows what's going to happen in the future with recruiting and what not, but there's not really grounds to fire him right now. If you fire him based off of a 1 game dip compared to expectations(and I think it's fair to say everyone on the forum expected around 10-2, some 11-1, some 9-3), then I'm not sure you need to be judging football coaches. That's a really dangerous way of going about it.

You and Wylo should go get a motel room. Then you can get off on your mutual disdain for the Vols

"...there's a lot of football yet to be played."

Those were Butch's words following USCe, probably the worst loss of our decade of mediocrity. Well, as is often the case w/ Butch, these ended up just being another meaningless phrase in the year in which it was supposed to all come together.

Anyone who believes this season is anything other than a total failure is delusional. We couldn't even win the SEC East when it's at its worst in a generation, perhaps ever.

Now, much of our talent (those who haven't already left) will be moving on, & Jones has a stable of 3*'s replacing them. This was the year & he blew it by not having his team ready to play a truly awful USCe team with two weeks to prepare.

Time to rip off the band aid, move on, & hire Kiffin. And no, I'm not kidding.

Yeah -thats a great idea- it went so well the first time. We need a sociopath - but not LK -.

If you expect perfection you will never achieve it.

If the standard is set that TN is to be in the SECCG every single year and anything else is a failure it's no surprise that critics call our team overhyped and overrated.

Alabama
Florida
Lsu
Michigan
USC west
FSU

Have all held their coaches to this standard for decades. We use to but then hired a moron AD who gave fulmer an extension and then fired him.

Sorry I expect to win and don't settle for less. Shoot for perfection and keep damn trying till you get it. This is what made Neyland. Never ever settle for second!

Stop responding. I get it. You are a person who settles. Average house, average wife, average life. I meet types like this everyday.

The way people can get so angry they personally attack people over a football debate is hilarious to me.

I'd hate to see how people react regarding arguments about things that actually matter in life if this is how they react to a football discussion.

GMAFB.

We get decimated by injuries worse than any team in the country, have a star RB lose his damn mind and sabotage the team chemistry on his way out, get the luck of the draw of getting the two toughest cross-division opponents of any team in the SEC, and we're STILL on track to post the best regular season record in a decade?

Sure, the loss to SC was horrible, even in spite of everything else. But so was LSU to Florida, Texas A&M to Miss St, Ohio State to Penn State, Louisville to Houston, Michigan to Iowa, Clemson to Pitt, etc. It's gonna happen to every team more years than not.

Get some damn perspective.

I have lived in a world for too long where I can fire people who bother me. My bad. Your point is well taken. my post was too personal.

The very best part of all of this is that it started with a Florida win...over LSU! CBJ's performance is unaffected by the results of another game. If you were going to call for his head, do it after the USCe game. If you're going base everything on the UF-LSU game, fire Orgeron. Or, be rational.

Kiffin is an OC and that's all he will ever be..... He does not have the maturity, structure, or intellect to be a successful HC especially in the SEC. Hell, he couldn't even be successful in the Pac 12 (his dream job).

Vols may be the highest ranked SEC school by seasons end playing in the #1 choice for an SEC bowl selection..don't know what bowl that is but pretty good considering the bad luck vols have had with all the injuries.
