Butch lays down the law!

How about butch calling a meeting and straight laying it down! Sounds like he tore into them boot camp style. Then Martin talks back and he says here's your papers. Go wherever you want and don't let the door hit your ass in the way out. We discuss his play calling/game management (and yes I've been critical in this regard) but I think this player meeting was awesome! Very Saban like. Butch just says and does all the right thing. I hope this doesn't get merged into the Martin thread as I'd love to see who all agrees that he made a statement to all his players regarding the culture we're creating

Were you there???

Things got loose quick, sounds like everybody is on notice. No repeats, no other dumb choices. It time for some football. Stop the extra. It's time to go go to work. Don't cheat yourself or the team. GO VOLS!

No but there's this technology called social media that helps people stay informed even if they weren't... Oh hell. Just noticed your a gators fan. Nevermind. Pretty cool you've learned how to get on the world Wide Web. Good job

Good stories normally start "Once upon a time."

I'm just glad Al Gore started the world wide web... :)

That's exactly right. Can't let the inmates run the prison. While there are some in this world that will coddle the reality is that life in general is a cold, cruel b!tch. Life doesn't care that you didn't win. Life doesn't care that your wittle feewins are hurt *sniff sniff*.....life carries on with or with out you. My father was very hard on me growing up when we tried to do anything. "Get your head out of you arse!" "Come on! Come on! We haven't got all day!!!" "I am going to stomp your ass the next time I hear you whine about ANYTHING!!!" "Come on space cadet!! Get with the program!!!!" Were all common sayings whenever we tried to do any work together what so ever. At the time it bothered me, but in the long run it gave me very, very thick skin and taught me to respect people even if I disagreed with them at the time. I think that to coddle to players not only does the team a disservice, but it does a tremendous disservice to the player. Butch is here to not only win games but to also help these players become better, more respectable young men. Tough love is often the best love IMO.

What does life have to say about the enter key?

Believe it or not, good coaching is dynamic.

There's a time to yell, there's a time to coddle.

Yelling at kids nonstop is just going to shut them down or make them start ignoring you.

OSU created that monster. Let them deal with it. Won't be as cute from the backup QB.

Didn't he tweet out last summer something to the effect of "we ain't come here to play no school" or something similar.

Yes there was definitely an inappropriate tweet or something I remember hearing about. I have to say that last one is pretty damn funny. Regardless, You'd like your QB to be a little less controversial. All these guys with egos come and go but when you look at the great qbs they are always the type guys that stay out of the news and don't create issues. That's proven to be most effective by far

Excellent Post!

I love it. I also wonder if it's true. Not waiting on a video of said meeting. But, it's hard to get too excited @ a story read here alone. I hope it's right because there's a lot to love here.

Pointing out the door-knob to some sends a positive signal to all.

It's biblical too. As a Sr. Pastor for a decade and a half, I had to use it. The results are excruciating and amazing AU the same time when executed properly.

Butch just let him know real quick, we can replace his brick mighty easily, and no one player is bigger than the team or what Tennessee stands for.

What a fool

What do you expect from one of Meyers players, players think like the coach, maybe after they get there azz kicked the first time this season, the QB wont fake a Health issue like Meyers did when he wanted a easy way out of the swamp.:cray:

I heard we just lost Kyle Oliver because he "did not comply with team standards". We need some depth at tight end... I'm hoping this isn't a trend.

Kyle Oliver was Charles Mosley's accomplice. Looks like he might have provided the "product" and then allowed Mosley to drive under the influence.

Difference is there were only about 2 other schools those players could leave for, at any give time, where the grass was greener/as green. Butch can piss these guys off and there are 50 other programs that would love to pick them up

very few of those that have left Tennessee due to behavior issues have been really missed. A couple like Smith to Oregon (failed drug tests at Tennessee and NFL, never at Oregon, huh?) did good but mosts were busts.
