Butch Jones

Tee Martin was much better than Manning or Dobbs. Go back and watch the UT vs South Carolina game Tee's Senior year. Like a pitcher throwing a no hitter and not throwing the ball but three times per batter...that would be the equivalent of Tee's game that afternoon.
Stop it. Just don’t . Seriously don’t

Edit: this is joke. Has to be . I’m sorry I fell for it . Well played.

Didn’t Butch pass on Trevor Lawrence due to him not fitting his system? Lawrence grew up a TN fan and wanted to sign with the Vols. Without Dobbs, Jones would not have lasted as long as he did in Knoxville.

Regarding the running backs, he also kept Kamara on the bench in favor of Hurd.
Well there was that, if true. Was definitely true about Kamara. I never understood that. Another reason Butch isn’t our coach now.

Say what you want, but I just watched UT highlights from 2013-2017 on YouTube, and my takeaway was that any one of Butch’s Vol teams would beat this current team by 4 TDs

My other takeaway was that Dobbs might be one of the best QBs we’ve had since Manning. I should’ve appreciated him more.

Thoughts?

Dobbs was definitely the best QB we have had since Manning. It's why the QB position is so important in football. Butch's teams were 4 - 8 without Dobbs every year. Dobbs (and Barnett) made them winners. Josh Dobbs made big plays out of broken plays all game long in the Butchfence. Criminally under-appreciated here.

Exact opposite this year. We were Top 5 SEC until the start of the second half of Georgia game. JG's second half against Georgia was the equivalent of the hand injury Erik Ainge suffered against Notre Dame which destroyed the 2005 team and led to the disaster we have witnessed for a generation. That play essentially cost Fulmer his job.

There's nothing more pathetic than people trying to re-imagine that Butch Jones and / or Derek Dooley were better coaches than they were to put Pruitt down.

You can dislike Pruitt w/o convincing yourself that Butch Jones was OK. He was terrible. He was 0-8 in the SEC in his final year. And the only reason he went 9-4 in '15 and '16 was because of Dobbs and Kamara (who he severely under-utilized). And those 2 teams had playoff-level talent and Butch couldn't even win the East with them. Without Dobbs, Butch has a losing record every season. And let's not even mention the fact that both Dooley and Butch did a lot of long-term harm to the program; Dooley in terms of his terrible recruiting that left the roster depleted. Butch by gutting the S&C program and doing terrible talent evaluation, so that some of his highly-rated recruiting classes were filled with busts.

Is Pruitt good enough to win at Tennessee? I don't know, but he's definitely better than Butch and Dooley.

You couldnt be more off the mark if you were trying...maybe you forgot the blue font..

You guys keep trotting out the same party line even when it has been repeatedly proven to be wrong.

Dobbs was a 3 star qb that was developed..

Kamara was behind a rb that would have easily broken the rushing record at UT. To pretend Kamara was playing behind an inferior athlete is beyomd the pale ridiculous.

CBJ didn't go 0-8 in the SEC

So Kamara helped out in 15-16 but Hurd didnt? How far are you willing to go in the wrong direction to prove an incorrect point.

If some of you would simply admit CBJ, while not being a great coach, didnt deserve the juvenile vitriol spewed from Twitter amd the message boards, you wouldnt need to keep stretching the truth to make you feel like you were right all along.

CJP was a mistake hire from the get go. And IMO any coordinator woild have beem if we were serious about winning.

I dont hate CJP and think he is a good coach with regard to postion and maybe even as a DC. However i am fairly certain he could be a poster child for the Peter Principal.

I personally do not understand some folka need to attack coaches on a personal level when they don't suceed, regardless of who the coach is. Unless youre in the 6th grade and then i can understand why usimg Beldar to describe JP seems funny. If youre older than that....youre embarrassing yourself

If he was the NFL rookie of the year in the pros, he should have been the best RB in the SEC(or close to it) during his last year in college, if utilized properly.

The same things could be said about Jason Witten and Reggie White. Some players continue to improve in the NFL. I don’t disagree he was underutilized but many on here act as if he was on the practice squad

Are you drunk? Which one had the best Pro career? Tee couldn't carry Peyton's water bottle when it comes to total skill set of a QB. Tee was much more mobile but that is not the first task for a QB. That is unless you are the QB at KY.
Like I said. Tee was the better COLLEGE QB. Tee beat Florida. Peyton lost to them 4 years straight. Tee won a national championship. Peyton did not. Peyton found it to be very difficult to win a bowl game. I know that, on this board, to say something other than "Peyton was the best" will lead to an all out attack from all sides. I don't care. I follow the science.

At least Butch Jones had the competence to play Josh Dobbs. If Pruitt was in charge while Josh Dobbs was here, he would've been benched because he didn't practice well enough.

If I recall it took injury to Worley for Dobbs to even seen the field though? We then learned Dobbs was a “gamer.” Not sure he would have seen the field otherwise, so wouldn’t credit Jones for that.

Casey was the best since Peyton. Dobbs was great though.

Butch was a awful coach he should’ve won the East in ‘15 and ‘16 those were some talent laden teams. Yet he choked both years especially against Florida and a awful South Carolina team then he friggin loses to Vandy blowing a Sugar Bowl berth. Saying Butch was better than Pruitt isn’t saying much. Pruitt is the worst coach in UT football history.

The science says Tee couldn’t beat Manning out, that’s all you need to know.

In reality, it took an injury to Riley Ferguson for Dobbs to see the field.

Peyton went 3-1 in bowl games. He was in another couple of leagues higher as a COLLEGE QB than Tee. Tee went 1-1 in bowl games

That was actually in 1998, Tee's junior
Oh I know exactly when it was. It was on the road. I could just as easily bring up that Tee Martin threw for 63 yards against Florida and won, yet he gets credit. People that make the argument that Tee was a better quarterback than Manning don’t know what the hell they are talking about. That’s why I was ridiculing him and hoping that he was joking.
