Butch Jones, you are the man

It does hurt watching Vonn Bell in Scarlet and Gray as well as Jalen Ramsey in Seminole red. Good point about how that hurts )or could have hurt with Hurd, Shy, DB.)

Or Tahj Boyd in Clemson orange...we missed out on too many of those guys under Kiffin and Dooley.

Far to early for me. He's done well so far in most aspects of the job, but his bottomline is to win games and bring championships to Tennessee. Whenever he's done that, i'll consider him "the man" and thank him till the sun goes down.

It really is ok to take just a minute along the journey and show appreciation for the distance you've just covered. He hasn't won the biggest games yet or brought a championship, but the positive movement in the program is undeniable.

I will give a HUGE shoutout to CBJ and all of the staff and players that are creating such a positive vibe in Big Orange Country!:clapping:

My initial thought was "too early" but I read the OP again.
He never mentioned anything about wins/losses. Everything he thanked Jones for was deserved.

But like you, I want to be able to throw out a thanks for a natty.

Should UT double Jones salary?
Is Jones under paid?
Will Jones ever have to win big at UT?
Thanks, for everything so far, coach Jones, but please win 8-9 games this year, ok?

Hugely well said, Allen. You speak for many of us, thanks for it.

Coach, you and your coaching team rock. Thanks for being you, with us, in these days. And hopefully for a huge hunk of days--a career, a lifetime--to come. Go Vols!

Even were he to walk out the door tomorrow and never come back, he deserves praise.

Let's beat some teams who matter before we crown his ass. But yes he is doing a hell of a job recruiting and the excitement is there.

Agreed, we need some more "4 and 5 star wins" Nevermind that he took over a depleted roster and had to play with mostly freshman and a average pocket QB in a read option system. Forget the top 10 recruiting he has achieved coming off the worst stretch of football in UTs history. Butch needs to prove himself this year. End 'Bathsalts' logic.

For as long as I can remember, and that is a while, I have been all Vol even before there was the phrase 24/7/365. (I think that 365 is right, I saw a thread . . .)

There was a time back in the recent past when I was about as downcast as I have ever been. Not just because of the football team -- I could rationalize somewhat a down cycle since I had been through the one back in the 1970's -- but my fear was irrelevance and never being able to rebuild. The football program and even other sports were unable to be competitive because of money issues and a good bit of that due to the University taking excess contributions from the football program, not being as successful with recruiting of the higher caliber of athlete, a precipitous slide toward second tier.

There are a couple of historic programs that I am thinking are headed that way and I didn't want Tennessee to be one of them. No need to call them out here. But let's use a long ago example - Army who was a huge national power 70 years ago whose time has now passed and gone. That was my fear.

Since Dave Hart's arrival (and I will give him huge credit for turning the financial side around) and then the hiring of Butch Jones, things have turned around dramatically. So I watched with a smile as the momentum grew out of an abyss even during Team 117's 5-7 year, the uga game came oh so close and I was on Orange Cloud 9 when Michael Palardy's kick when through the uprights. And then big momentum with Team 118 and the program momentum changer at uscjr. And being in Jacksonville for the TaxSlayer Bowl was great fun.

Over the past few years, the Vols have lost a notch on the all-time winningest football teams list. For me, that is the ultimate benchmark -- winning enough games over a several decades to move win by win closer to #8 Penn State (849 to 811) and the two tied at #6 (bama and Oklahoma at 850) and keep ahead of #10 USC (811 to 805). If that were to come to pass it would no doubt mean that the Vols were in contention for the SEC championship year in an year out and would have won several SEC championships and another national championship or two.

I do believe we are headed in the right direction. I think things are on the right track. I like the new enthusiasm, the One Tennessee, the swagger, and the flash. We live in the media age and it appears the Vols are making the most of it.

I give Butch Jones credit for being the most relentless, hard working guy in football. He gets my highest praise for what he has done to date. I do believe that Orange storm is coming and so is the true test. On top of recruiting, recruiting, recruiting, the next phase of Butch's program needs to be winning, winning, winning.

GBO!!

This was executed perfectly haha. Not everyone will get it, but just know that I laughed.

Yeah Butch, thanks for everything you have done for our beloved university. All that's left for you to do now is win at a high rate, seriously....just win!

I want to say thank you, as well as give others on here a platform, to say thank you for making Tennessee football exciting again. Thank you for recruiting the best players in the nation. I'm so glad I don't have to see Jalen Hurd in an Alabama uniform running all over our defense. I'm so glad I don't have to watch Derek Barnett or Shy Tuttle in a UGA uniform destroy our offensive line and eat our QB alive. Thank you for bringing Nike to Rocky Top and making an offseason tolerable. Thank you for working 24/7 for my Vols and embracing all of our beautiful traditions. Thank you for finally shutting up Steve Spurrier. Thank you for making our season last until January again. Thank you for giving your all to Tennessee.

I have never been more proud of my Tennessee Volunteers. This year will be great, family. GBO!!!!!

Amen, Vol Brother

This is the way an offseason should be. Perhaps we have learned to support the Vols in bad times as well as good times! We can't be fair weather fans. We have to stick with the program no matter what! Living in Alabama I can tell you that Alabama fans stick with their team unlike any other fan base I've ever seen. Kentucky basketball fans will get down on their team, Auburn fans will desert their team, but not Alabama football fans! That is the kind of fans we need to be. There are going to be disappointing days ahead for sure. We will lose a game here and there, and perhaps the ball will not bounce our way and we lose a game we didn't think we were going to lose, but we have to stay faithful to the Vols! CBJ is getting his part of the job done, the players are working hard, and we have to get our job done as well. We need to bring the enthusiasm we had in Jacksonville to every game this year! Win or lose!!!

I don't have a problem with our AD. Aside from some overreacting about a name change, he has done a great job on the financial situation he faced when he took over. All of our sports programs have legitimate coaches. And the new contract with Nike has created a lot of positive buzz in the way of recruiting.

I remember feeling this way when Johnny came marching home, but by year 3, I could see it was 3 yards and a cloud of dust, old school hard headed, predictable, lack of innovation football.

Butch & Co. are creating something we may have never seen-a dynastic UT machine, recruiting classes even better than the ones we had in the '90's, with swagger and fire like we've really never seen.
I imagine The General's teams had that kind of swagger, but that was before my time.
I don't see it as unfounded cockiness, not when most of these kids are at or close to the top of their respective positions in recruiting, and are simply used to winning before they even set foot on campus.
Khalil McKenzie, Drew Richmond, Jalen Hurd, etc, etc.

They EXPECT to win.
Ain't a dang thing wrong with that.
