5 games in, what have yall seen philosophically that you either are excited about or has you scratching your head?

1. Color me not excited with the idea that for the next four seasons we are going to have to watch our RBs try to turn the corner on an outside sweep play 25 times a game. This. Will. Not. Ever. Work. Against. SEC. Teams.

I'm sure it was great for him in the big east, but there is too much speed to ever consistently turn the corner in this league. The sooner TBJ gets this through his Spike's Dad from Little Giants haircut head the better.

With the RBs and OLine we have on this roster, it is nonsensical that we do not try to pound the ball up the middle. Top Button Jones et al (his staff) are clearly not willing to adjust their Big East system to the SEC game.

2. Why the heck are we running zone blitzes that require DEs like Jordan Williams to drop into coverage!? This team doesn't even have linebackers that can maintain man coverage on rbs/TEs, so why in the world would Top Button Jones et al run a zone blitz scheme that pits a 5.0 Forty DE against a RB!? This isn't the NFL and it sure as spit isn't an NFL roster. Get back to basics! Stop trying to be cute with exotic blitz schemes, for this is a big reason why we are giving up big plays...we get ourselves in situations where a huge mismatch is blatantly obvious to the opposing QB.

I've seen nothing through 5 games, philosophically speaking, that makes me think that even with quality talent back on the Hill we would be in any different position than we are now. Someone in another thread mentioned that the similarities they see with Top Button Jones are that of when Rich Rod went to Michigan and refused to adjust his system to the tougher league/competition level and his roster.... I fear TBJ may be the poor man's version of the same thing.

i hope you are wrong in so many ways and on so many levels, but i agree overall

honestly did not watch much of the game, but i remember a 3rd and 15 (i think?) when we only rushed 3 and put everyone in coverage...they converted imagine that

doesn't fall in line with the zone blitzes and what not you mentioned, however it did grind my gears quite a bit

I couldn't agree more. I think The whole "we'll play to our teams strengths " was just blowing smoke/coach talk. This offense is horible to watch the play calling is kinda high schoolish . I see Why Georgia fired him as DC ( set the edges and cover the middle for gods sake). lol

I disagree with most of the things you say, however it's hard to take you serious with your references to his haircut and "Top Button".

Next time when you try to play eCoach drop the petty comments and your comments may be better received.

We have a vanilla offense because we have a vanilla quarterback.
I'm sorry bud, I think we run about 4 formations on Offense , it's pretty easy to tell where the ball is going . 5 games in and even the anouncers are seeing how wide open the middle is on Defense and how mismatched our LB's are. I think we are running a big east scheme in the SEC . We seem to have only 2 TE passing plays so far . Same ole WR screens ,Same ole read option runs every game. Would Like to see some creative plays to help our Talent level. we will not run on SEC teams unless we do more. The Coaches are responsible for putting our players in positions to win. So far the Play calling,( the Hurry Up yesterday when S.Alabama got the ball the last time) needs to change. I like everything Butch has said so far. But actions speak louder than words .

What we heard in the offseason was that we play to our strengths and what we see is running the same damn play over and over with a QB who won't (or has been told not to) run and RBs that are a step slow to reach the edge.

I can't decide if he's waiting for Worley to turn into Vick suddenly or using it as a recruiting tool to attract a stud HS dual threat QB next year.

Worley is a great great Kid, and I honestly believe he would have looked better with a Power running game ( under center handing off to a HB & fb and doing some play action with this o-line) I don't think this silly looking offense would look much better with out him. Him running the read option looks as silly as me Coaching the Vols.

This roster is the proverbial square peg in a round hole argument. It's also not SEC elite either. Butch has no clue how to run a traditional offense, and neither does Coach Jake, so it's going to look like a train wreck until people are put in the right positions to make plays.

It's painful to watch. They got out coached by USA yesterday in the second half. They made better adjustments. We kept running our heads into that brick wall Jones is building. That was a poor half of football.

I like Jones as a coach, i don't care for his offensive system that much. Right now it's a eye sore.

Got to recruit for his system and get time in it for the rest.

When you dropoff to Sun Belt level talent in your second team on defense, and somewhat on offense, it's going to show up sooner or later against a foe like USA.

When the players were executing in the second quarter, this offense moved very well and scored a lot of points. This game should have been a blowout. Only Worley's stupid plays kept UT from scoring more. He is the reason USA got back into the game.

On defense, we just don't have any closing speed. Plus, one thing I have noticed this season in watching other games, it is not just a problem at UT. It seems as if the offenses have far surpassed defenses in the entire landscape of college football right now.

USA had a better QB than UT. UT was better just about everywhere else. It shows how important the QB position is to a team. That UT doesn't have a better option right now is not Butch's fault.

I agree, and the fact we don't have a traditional FB to run any type of power runs sucks as well.
I think Jones is the type that is going to run what brung him to the dance no matter what.. That's fine if it eventually works. Otherwise we'll be working on our next coach in about 3 years..

"Talent" argument holds no water this time around.

Cue get's it, brick by brick, wants to be here, etc.

I homestly don't think he can win ball games. I hope I'm wrong but play calling has been stupid up to this point. I would have run the ball about 20 more times yesterday and this game would have been a blow out, plus we probably wouldn't have turned it over THREE TIMES

Saying that after 5 games, and where we were left by Dumb Dumb, is showing your battered fan syndrome.
