I think most of us on VolNation are pretty good judges of character. I would have expected no less of Butch than being a down-to-earth guy, a guy from Western Michigan growing up in a small town whose father was a police officer. That is pretty grounded roots, the kind of thing that engenders loyalty.
Tennessee has a lot of positives about it to make one feel loyal to it. Add pride and love of the Tennessee Vols to that and it is not hard to see how he would live an breathe Vol football, as Vols fans demand that their coaches to do. And while he makes "the big bucks" now, there is no doubt that he has an ingrained work ethic; we have all witnessed that. He is to use a Butchism, relentless.
I sure he is quite aware that he has whipped up most Vol fans into a frenzy. I don't know him but I think I would like him as a person which I cannot say about certain other coaches. I wish him success on being as successful as I would like for him and the Vols to be. And if that level of success is achieved, then the Vols can't jump any higher.
