Butch Jones speaks

Butch Jones talking about this teaming using this to help them grow up made me want to puke. It's year 4. If we haven't grown up by now Butch then you will never have a team that isn't growing in your eyes.

You can always grow, my friend. People are blowing this particular comment way out of proportion.

Botch is an excuse and cliche machine. Of all that was bad in this game, the worst aspect was coaching. We were not adequately prepared for this game both mentally and strategically while Appy State was very well prepared. The game plan and play calling were just awful, and our adjustments were terrible as usual.

Not true, defense looked very good. We made adjustments and shut them down. That's a huge positive bc we lose this game last year without shoop.

Dear lord please make Tennessee great again otherwise we might have a mass suicide. We got the dub against a team we were flat against. Happens every year to good to great teams. Think we'll be talking about this Florida week? Nope.

If Sutton doesn't fumble the punt, if Williams doesn't drop the ball in the end zone, if Reeves Maybin doesn't get tossed, if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle. Gheesh.

You mean if the refs got the call right in the end zone? I was pretty sure prior to this game that the ground cannot cause a fumble and he damn sure wasn't bobbling it around as he came down; it was a catch all day. Also I was pretty sure once again, prior to this game, that the previous play could not be reviewed once the next play commenced. I heard no whistles, saw no flags, etc. on our 1st down catch that was ruled incomplete. The next play commenced yet somehow after again the NEXT play the team is lining up after Hurd's decent gain and the previous catch is being reviewed. Wtf?? I also didn't know you could trip a player from behind on punt coverage and it not be considered a block in the back. I don't know that I've seen a game officiated so poorly.

On Tennessee’s first down woes: “I’ll know more when I go back and watch film.”

- Phil Ful... Butch Jones

Lmao. Stevie Wonder could see when we were going to hand it to Hurd straight up the middle. Either Dobbs is making terrible reads and not holding onto the ball when he should or our play calling is just stupid. His hand offs to Hurd are soooo slow developing the corner is practically there to help make the tackle by the time Jalen has the ball in hand moving forward. That would be great if Dobbs kept it and those defenders that were on Hurd like white on rice were sucked into the fake hand off and Dobbs took it for 8-15 yds.

It's the playcalling and coaching. Remember how slow it was when Worley handed it off as well?

Why is no one blasting DeBord? Atrocious offensive playcalling. Tennessee ran about 6 -7 plays the entire game. I was watching and predicting nearly every play. DeBord needs to retire.

At this point I dont care what Butch has to say anymore. I dont watch his pressers and whatever he had to say tonight is just the same BS we've heard a hundred times before.

We get beat in Bristol and Butch needs to go.

I agree. Our team was not prepared, execution was terrible, game plan and play calling was horrible.
Like you, i`m tired of the Butch doublespeak. There is no way we should be playing this bad four years into Jones tenure.
It is time for Jones to start winning OR hit the road.

Read more threads. There is plenty of Debord blasting going on here.

I see some things never change...... The b::::hing horde of overreactors is out in full force after 1 game.

Vols are doomed.... All of them suck..... Fire the coaches.... Yah yah yah.

Some of you need a heavy dose of antipsychotics

Bet you said the same thing after the first game in 05. What do you expect a fan base of a program like UT to be like?.....be all cheerful and fired up after beating appy st in OT? It's the natural reaction of a poorly coached and game performance. Stay off the board next time and go do back flips and celebrate this big OT win over appy st

CBJ has alot to do with the offense as well. Both are bad coaches

It was not a catch. The ground cannot cause a fumble, but you have to have possession first, which he didn't because the ground knocked it loose

Calling a bad performance a bad performance is not "*****ing." The ones I worry about are the ones pretending that the game we all watched didn't actually happen

I think the reason why Dobbs is a terrible decision maker sometimes is because we don't have a QB coach. I don't know what their specific roles are, but a QB coach can't hurt.

Unless that QB coach can teach someone how to block for Dobbs its always going to be an uphill battle.

The slow handoffs are designed gap scheme run plays in Butch's offense. They are not zone read. They are designed to be what you see, to have a semi appearance of zone read while just being what they are. As if the opponents don't already know that. Which makes it even more depressing that they continue to run those sorry designed plays so often 4 years into his career at UT. Who didn't know that Debord was going to call this play on first down all but a handful of times?

This. It's actually telling the truth, which is what many object to hearing.
