Butch Jones Postgame

When a coach can't pinpoint exactly why his quarterback's effectiveness took a nosedive during the post-game presser (referring to his "I'll know more when I watch the tape tonight" comment), he sure as heck couldn't pinpoint it during the game. Therefore, why would we expect him to be able to recognize said shifts by the opposing team DURING the game and actually make any compensating adjustments?

Fulmer spent a LOT of time "watching tape" in his latter years.

At this point all I hear coming out of his mouth is the teacher from Charlie Brown...Wah, Wah, Wahwah Wha Wah.... unless he said, "this game was lost by our coaching staff's lack of effort, lack of balls, and lack of play calling and intelligence, it is just coach-speak. I know this is brutal, but talk is cheap and that is all he has been doing.... talking. He can recruit, but l haven't seen him actually coach yet. If things don't change, recruiting will tail off and we are going to be left with searching for another coach in about 1-2 years.... No WR recruit would want to sniff TN at this point after last night. All our group did was run routes and work on cardio. Makes you wonder when Debord several weeks ago sang Dobbs praises about how much his accuracy had improved.... improved from what exactly? I love Dobbs but either Debord has zero faith in his throwing ability, or most of us have been fleeced with how good a QB he actually is.

It's easy for coaches to sing the praises of their players in the off season when it makes them look good.

I think the fleecing is coming from how good a coach DeBord actually is.

Since he came in and suggested some "technical tweaks" to Dobbs in March, he seems to have regressed in the actual game.

Granted, the sample size is small to this point but all I have seen is an OC that is an outstanding name dropper but not much else.

Remember how we blasted Dooley for throwing kids under the bus and making smart comments? Butch won't go there.

He should just say my bad and it won't happen again! Admit getting out coached and go to practice!

Blast his buddy and mentor who now obviously makes more than he is clearly worth.... that's a good start.

You're talking crazy talk. No coach is going to do that but I understand and support the gist of what you're saying. No more coach speak, we're not freakin' idiots.

Nor should he. You don't throw the players under the bus or put them on blast. The mark of a good coach (or manager) is they're the last to accept credit and the first to take blame.

I agree with you. His response should have been something to the effect of "we have a lot of work left to do in making sure our players are ready to deal with different blitz packages to ensure we can operate the offense effectively. This is on us as coaches and it WILL be corrected." Boom. Acknowledges he perceives where the shortcoming was, shoulders the responsibility for the players not able to adjust without calling anyone out.
