I cannot argue the repetitive plays we see with our own eyes. It is frustrating. Does CBJ get any benefit of the doubt though? I know we are all rabid after the last decade but can we legitimately hold it against him because of some bad hires and questionable decisions? What if the scheme is severly hampered because of the players? ...what if the score and field position have been as big an influence as anything else? ....what does a person do in life, when there are no good solutuons for the problems that exist?

QUESTIONS
-Worley and Jackson will be at practice. Not sure if Thomas will practice but expect all three to be available Saturday.

-Worley has been through a lot with not just sacks but hits. It's a cumulative effect.

-We're building a program and can't get caught up in the ups and downs. A lot of sleepless nights but as a leader you have to look if you're making progress. We are all disappointed because you play to win and it's a bottom line business --- you're measured on wins and losses. Have to be resilient. We are making great strides and great progress.

-As a team, we can't get caught up in external distractions but need to focus on getting better every day.

-Disappointed but encouraged. We'll get there. Proud of our players. Our guys are very prideful.

-Nobody has blinked. Nobody has flinched. We have to keep going.

-When things don't go your way, the little things are magnified. If we continue to play hard and invest in victory the ball will bounce our way and we will find a way to make plays. We're going to be fine.

-We thought we had a couple opportunities for interceptions where we had the right call on defense but didn't capitalize. But we have to create our own opportunities and that's how you win football games.

-(Lane Kiffin question from Adams). The game means everything to our program and our fans because its Alabama not because it's Lane Kiffin. Nobody on our team knows who Kiffin is, they weren't even here. If they are, they're worried about something that has no meaning on the outcome.

-(Have you ever met Lane?) No.

-On our offensive line, they have to make plays. Families in need help each other out. Other positions/players on the team can help by stepping up.

-The quarterback has a timing mechanism. We have to get rid of the ball. Sometimes Justin has to get rid of the ball. And it's not just the line, the backs and tight ends have responsibilities in protection also.

-We would like to limit the reps some of our guys get. On defense in a perfect world we'd like to have guys getting 40 reps but we have guys getting 80. Some of those guys are also getting reps on special teams.

-Jacob Gilliam is a warrior. His big thing is stamina and getting back his quickness. He's not there yet.

-We've talked about Josh Malone being more assertive and he played his best game to date and showed a little bit of his skill set. He works hard every day --- great character.

-It presents challenges with Hurd and Lane limited. Play calling isn't some magical cure. There's a human side and a lot of times it comes down to making plays. When we call plays we like to think players --- getting the ball into the hands of our playmakers.

-There are a number of SEC teams who are capable of winning the National Championship and we've played several of them.

-Cam is playing with great confidence right now. He wants the ball thrown at him in crucial situations.

-We talk about play calling, but football comes down to one-on-one matchups.

-We've missed Josh Smith immensely. He's a leader on and off the field. He's making progress and will start running this week. It's a longshot that he would be available this weekend. He's a playmaker for us and anytime you take a playmaker off the field it hurts. (Is a redshirt in play?) He'll play. That thought hasn't even been considered.

So if we can't execute the plays that we run all the time, what makes you think we will execute the special surprise type plays that aren't readily called? Bottom line, without a solid o line, any offensive scheme or play call will look amateurish. This group needs to learn to rush block and pass Block the basic plays before we start throwing extra burdens on them. And don't expect that to happen until next season.

For starters... who am I kidding? No matter what I write you will say it is impossible to get this group to playing well on offense. I just don't buy it. I don't think we stick with plays and match ups that are working in ball games. There are multiple plays we ran successfully last weekend, that we only ran twice. There are also multiple plays we ran without success, but we tried some those plays 3 or 4 times.

I believe Butch's stubbornness is an asset, and will prove to be beneficial in the long term once he gets the right players for his system. In the mean time, I would love to see this staff make some adjustments from week to week. Or at least be stubborn and keep calling successful plays until the defense proves they can stop them.

It really undermines the "family" atmosphere and goal of the team when a head coach calls out his assistants. Im sure Butch has chewed some butts in private and its not like the coaches are dumb. They want to win. They want to be good. Let Butch do what he's paid (very well) to do. If we need a change he'll make it.

I agree with this. I may not agree wither everything Butch does, but I still love him. I hate our record. It's frustrating watching our offense. I may criticize aspects of our play calling, but I still think it's too early to judge this staff.

Two positives.

Worley is at practice. Despite the awful game I feel he is still by far their best shot at competing for wins..

Seeing Gilliam on the field Saturday also made me very proud.

Despite everything else, wins or losses, offensive struggles, bowl game or not, all these seniors deserve a big round of gratitude for what they have put up with during their tenure.

I doubt Jones will say anything substantive or different about the offense the rest of the season. No point in expecting him to IMO.

What changes exactly would you suggest given an offensive line that cannot run block or allow the QB more than 2 seconds to pass? And, from the play of OL backups, it doesn't appear the answer is changing the starters.

Before the season started, how many expected our record to be different than it currently is?

If memory serves me, this is about spot on with expectations. Some teams have been better than originally thought & others have been less. Frustration with lost opportunities is expected but back to reality - this is a very young team with little depth. Take a chill pill, deal with the disappointment & look forward to the PROCESS producing positive results coming in the form of "W's" soon enough.

This is why he signed a 6 year deal with a very large guarantee - he has time to produce results & given his recruiting prowess we will be happy in the near future. :good!:

I was at the game and that was by far the worst interception I have seen in a long time when Worley rolled out with a couple more seconds to see the field and instead threw it right into the arms of a Ole Miss defender standing flat-footed. We need to bring in Cromp-daddy from Canada and show this kid how to roll out away from pressure, set his feet and let it rip. That gives our WRs a few more seconds to develop into their routes.... He mastered the roll out his last season and did a great job against Bama with it....

For example Butch says he grades coaches every game, he's never once said if they got a good grade.

And I hope he never does. It would be disasterous for him to start throwing his assistants under the bus to the press. If he has any issues with the job his assistants are doing he should handle it internally.

Adams' job is not to be a UT homer. Why is he negative? Have you missed the last 12 years of UT football? He's a newspaper guy, and should tell it like it is; that is his function, not to be a UT cheerleader.

Always has a blurb about what the defense could of done to make something happen. Let's just keep the emphasis on the offense, and call out why we are so terrible on that side of the ball. The defense is doing their part. Can't even ask anything more of them. They are playing their butts off

I like Jones, but his rhetoric is already beginning to wear thin. We just got poleaxed by ole miss--long the conference doormat--after choking away what could have been at least an ugly victory over a bad florida team that may soon sack its coach; and we will get destroyed this weekend by our longtime rival. So I'm not sure what progress Jones is talking about. We haven't made progress this year: that is the cold, hard fact. As Jones himself said, it's a bottom-line business.

The roll out is a nice idea but I just don't think that this offense is predicated enough on play action to make it work along with Worley not being anywhere near as athletic as Crompton.

They do straight roll outs more than a few times and all it does it cut the field in half for the defense.
