Butch Jones just bet his career

Butch pretty much made it clear. You want a link, google the Debord presser your damn self. My fancard is every bit as legit as yours, chief....and you and your homer buds don't get to dictate who is and who isn't a fan.

Some of us choose to think for ourselves, rather than be a bunch of .....

....like yourself. Now...

cute....you are a drama queen...spewing and ranting, raving about an OC hire. Get over the self appointment of calling it out.

I question the hire but I haven't gone to the extreme of calling anybody out that are like myself reserving their opinion. CBJ has delivered so far why bash his hire until the right time. I trust CBJ in his decision making process. Debord was hired the moment CBJ had to make the change, I don't like the hire but I support the coach and I don't for one second believe the OPs comments nor do I like some posters shouting and running around like below.

Sounds like this hire got your panties in a wad....LOL

UT needs to win 8-9 games minimum in 2015. If they don't, imo it doesn't matter who is OC. All of their jobs will be in jeopardy going forward. Recruiting is one thing. Hart isn't paying 3 million plus a year to a guy because he can recruit. At this point it's win. Time for excuses is over.

Jeopardy may kick in at a 5 - 6 win season and Jeopardy means nothing more than a couple more seasons to sort it out. It's a safe word to use because it means literally means nothing nor will it ever be used by the University, Hart or AD personnel, just people with opinions. It's like Double Secret Probation....LOL

The improvements go beyond just recruiting, CBJ will be here for 4 more years, Hart can't afford to fire him.

This University, AD and team cannot and will not endure another coaching carousel as long as improvements are being made on/off the field and team remains competitive. Plus, where has he failed yet?

Let Butch win 7 games or fewer in 2015 and watch Hart light his seat ablaze. Recruiting is going well. Lots of attrition, seems another player is being investigated daily. There is good and bad right now. On the field, about where they should be. Take a step back and you might be surprised how fast things heat up.

IMO they will win the 8-9 they need to.

Butch didn't wanna jeapordize the season by. holding the team back another year. He goes out and hires a guy that he knows will still run his offense. Someone that will fit with a close group of guys already there.

I think some of you wouldn't know what to do with your life if you didn't argue over stupid crap. Geez.

I am not really seeing how the sky is falling on this hire. Have you seen some of the QB's this guy has worked with in the past? He helped develop Brady into a college level QB and that is nothing short of a miracle.

Calm the hell down and be patient. I know that goes against the nature of a lot of people on here but humor the rest of us that actually have patience.

You will quickly learn that being patient is not something that most of the kids here on VN know anything about my friend.

I want to win everything right now too but I'm older and more realistic and understand that it takes several years of good recruiting and coaching to finish a total rebuilding job like buTch took on.

Kids will learn eventually that instant gratification vanishes when they have to pay for everything themselves.

Life is tough and you have to earn everything you get and the sooner that kids learn this the better off they'll be.

I still believe that buTch will get us where we all want to be given time to keep building and if we pay our best recruiters well enough to stay at Tennessee.

I lot of kids only learn that they have to pay of everything when they are 50-70 years old and their parents die.

I take it that the bold is your opinion also.

Lots of Attrition and I agree, however it maybe a good thing. What has CBJ done except suspend or dismiss the players that violated team rules and told some players after being approached that they may need to look around. Right now I see his actions as discipline and as a coach telling a player he may not make it here.

It is not like he can tell a recruit I can't take you because I have someone lower on the depth chart than you that I have to play. A roster player cannot expect him to pass on a higher rated player.

another player being investigated ---- yea, the investigations are still down and the rift raff seems to be focus in only a few players direction. A majority if not all of the investigations involved a woman. Its an unfortunate situation.

Butch Jones has had two stellar recruiting classes, but his record after 2 years at UT is a less-than-stellar 12-13. For him, 2015 is the money year, the payoff after 2 years of great recruiting. He needs 8, maybe 9 regular season wins to show that he and his staff can mold all that football talent into a winning team.

So what has he done at this most critical juncture in his career? He's hired as OC an old crony who hasn't done much of anything as a football coach in the past ten years. Jones is betting that DeBord will somehow blossom into a first-rate OC in the toughest league in football - a coach whose football acumen equals the talent of UT's 4- & 5-star recruits.

In essence, Butch Jones has bet career on DeBord. If UT stumbles against, say, UGA, UF, and Mizzou again, if we have blowout losses to OU & Bama because of an inept offence and just plain dumb playcalling, fingers will be pointed. But not at DeBord, rather at Butch Jones. He will have lost the huge bet he's made. In which case, Jones will be remembered for 2 things: a) a legacy of terrific football talent for the new HC we hire in 2016, and b) the guy who chose an ole pal over a career as HC at Tennessee.

2015 will be a very interesting year of UT football.

Winning record or not in '15, we won't see a new coach in '16. Again I'm so glad that some of you knuckle heads aren't the AD......

Let's focus only on the bad. Where is it? Attrition will always happen some years it will be higher, There are some players on this team that need to move on because they are dead weight.

Leave out the assaults and one party at AJs house that's it. Where is the bad? I don't see bad I see bad being weeded out which needs to be done. I am seeing some that don't think they will play as much as they anticipated and they are leaving but that is not bad it is reality.

4 players raping a girl and filming it is bad (Vandy) It was an unwise choice on their part.

AJ and Williams incident is TBD.

Coaches cannot hold the players hands nor can they chaperone dates. They can only deal with this on a case by case basis and be consistent in their discipline.

I think CBJ has a better handle on this team than most give him credit for doing.

Fireproof, and yes they're both great movies.

That's it, Fireproof, Thanks for helping me get it right my friend.

Off topic, I love seeing your name because it brings on deja vu of decades ago.

High pressure fog engines because fireplugs were few and far between, Scott air packs and hanging onto the back of the fire trucks and watching the lights go round and round, LOL!

Smoke eaters make hotter lovers too, LOL!

Yea the only thing that still holds true is the ole Scott air packs. Tho there a lot lighter and easier to wear but same packs. And the lights don't go round n round nymore they just blink til they blind ya... And I sometimes wish we could still ride tailboard, just not days like today!!!

Out in the suburbs back then there were very few street lights so those lights on top of the truck were bright enough and I'd dread the new lights they have now.

I hate cold weather and a house fire in this weather is horrid.

Way back then we had a house fire just after the sleet began.

I had to go on the roof of the garage and break out the wooden slats at the peak of the roof on the main part of the house to get water in the attic.

Sleet was really coming down and a leaky nozzle on the high pressure reel line I was using made that roof solid ice in no time.

I got the engineer to bring me a attic ladder and got the curved hooks over the peak of the roof.

Finally had the ladder rungs to try to help me stay on the roof.

Ice finally built up so that the ladder rungs and everything were solid ice and I slid off the roof and was lucky I didn't break anything.

I was so glad when we finally got that fire knocked down and went back to the station to thaw out.

Attic ladder was frozen solid to that roof and we finally got it back 2 or 3 days later, LOL!

I threw a screaming fit to the asst-chief and he finally got that leaky nozzle on that reel line fixed, LOL!

Just stay safe my friend and THANKS for your service!

Thank you for your service back when times wasn't so easy.... It's come along way since the ole days. I've been doin this for 21 yrs and still love my job as much as I did the 1st day. Again thanks for blazing the path for us.

With players like Dobbs and Hurd I would think any OC would have to go out of his way to not have success over the next few years. We shall see.

If we only win 6 or 7 games in 2015, what would Butch have to do to restore faith?

I'd say we would have to win the East at a minimum in 2016 or Butch will truly be our Ron Zook. He might survive a few more years, but he won't be The One. Butch has done great things from Sunday to Friday in Knoxville. It is time to bring it together on Saturday as well and against the best of the best.

We've got more returning talent than anyone; we're in Year Three of his system. Debord was a message that continuity reigns and that there is belief we will contend for the East this year. Schedule is tough, but it always will be. I'm not even sure Dobbs going down early will justify 6-wins.

Time for lots of Ws this year. Otherwise, it's going to take something epic in 2016. I want Butch to succeed.
