Remember that? "He needs more time". His 5th year, he puts a whopping one player in the 3rd round. We should have kept him at least one more year.

Sure he is. After sll those losses he was still bringing in talent. He is too conservative for the scheme he likes to run. All you have to do is watch the film and go with the %eges.

We used a lot of formations for O&W game. I'm proud of that. Gone are the days so mony of our plays being ran from similar formations.

He was a great recruiter, he just couldn't develop players after they got here.

He was a good recruiter.....nothing great about averaging the 13th rated class over 5 years, exact same as Dooley. Saban, Meyer and Fisher.....they’re great recruiters, not Jones.

I remember when Pruitt was at Georgia. Bulldog fans were blaming Pruitt for loses. Granted he has had time to grow and I suspect our d will be better but he will need time to grow as a hc. My question is Helton. But I’m pulling for them all to right this ship

Still waiting. Haven't seen any proof of it yet.

His history as a recruiter, which includes being the national recruiter of the year once or twice, suggest he will. But you’re right, no proof of it yet. And the 2018 finish to his class was a bit of a rough start

So Richt goes 14 years without reaching the pinnacle, with some of the best talent ever assembled but it was Pruitt's 2 yrs that cost them the big games.

Ok.

No. I don’t think so. That’s bulldog fans. I believe we have the right man for right now and he has a huge upside.

All that does is tell us how stupid UGA fans are. Took a defense ranked 45th in the country the year before he got there and took them to 17th in total defense and top 10 in turnover margin and passing yards allowed in 2014......and 7th in 2015, including leading the nation in fewest passing yards allowed.

By most all accounts, Pruitt ruffled feathers down in Georgia because he didn’t mesh well with Richt and his staff who weren’t nearly as interested in winning football games as he was. That’s why he left, and it’s also why he landed at Alabama, meshed extremely well with Saban, and immediately posted back to back years there of #1 defenses in the country.

Ok.

Yea.

Georgia with Pruitt went 20-6. I'm sure some will give Saban all the credit, but with Pruitt Bama was 27-2 with one loss being a NC game.

I guess my point is, you can't say he didn't improve.

Lulz...

I opened that window to reply, was curious about the exact numbers and opened another window to look them up. By the time I finished, KB done laid the hammer.

Cool story Behr. Stfu.

KB's fast. You gotta be on your game to compete with him for bringin' it.

break/break

Jones was a great recruiter when there was still room to believe he might be a great Xs and Os guy, and a great field general. The recruits stopped flowing as well for him once people began to question his offensive scheme. We all remember that: the "you can tell where they're going to run the ball by where Hurd lines up" observations. As well as goofy decisions near the goal line. After those weaknesses became exposed, that's when he became just a "good" recruiter. The great was gone.

As with anything, a salesman is bound up with his product. If it's a product people really want, a good salesman can become world class.

Butch was a good recruiter--a good salesman. But his product, what he could offer the recruits, became less valuable in his final years.

Simple as that, really.

Really???… Do you really believe our roster is loaded with NFL talent ? We have little or no difference makers at any position on the entire roster

I think your sarcasm meter is busted, Biopsy. The OP was pretty clearly talking tongue-in-cheek. :)

This is well said JP. There was more to it, a little bit, than what I posted earlier, about him being no different than Dooley.

Jones posted back to back top 10 classes (#7 in 2014, #4 in 2015), which is right on the “great recruiter” cusp.......before he was smoked out as a fraud. After proving to recruits that he wasn’t the guy that matched up with all the great things about the Tennessee football program, he went back to looking more like the guy who opened his career at Tennessee with the 25th ranked class.

Only caveat I would add is that there are only 3-4 truly great recruiters year in and year who really deserve the adjective that gets thrown around way, way too often in today’s society.....”great”. And although Lyle did put up outstanding back to back classes in 2014 and 2015, was that enough to label him a “great recruiter”, especially given his other 3years here where his average class was #19?

Jones did a decent job of recruiting and half of them left after a season or two with him. He was good at selling not very good at backing up the sell as many wanted their money back after trying out the product and finding it had defects.

Recruiting to Bama? I could do that.
