Butch Jones... How much longer

Have some patience folks, there has been remarkable improvement since December 2012. If the results are still the same in 2016 then we can revisit this topic but until then let's pump the brakes. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to feel because that's your opinion. But me personally I see this coaching staff and team growing up right before our eyes. I know some wanted over night success but UT couldn't afford over night success(paying players, cheating etc). I think its only fair to give Jones until 2016 because he is recruiting well and it'll be interesting to see the development.

Serious question. People will blast me as a negavol ect. But like it or not... Hes not going to return us to prominence. Hes a great recruiter but a terrible tactician. And he's just one of these guys that scared to death of life. Like the guy in the highway that slams on his brakes in the middle of an intersection when the light turns yellow. I've been in the fence about him but I'm not anymore. We've lost almost every winable game he's coached in while here. The two he won (sc) both took miraculous comebacks that never should have been required. We were firmly in control of both games in the second half before getting conservative and trying to run out the clock. Last night we saw an example of a great coach. They got the ball off a to late in the game while leading and put their foot on our throats and won.

So two questions...Who's next and how much longer before we can afford to part with Butch? Serious questions so please don't merge...

So...if we're not contending for the SEC Championship by Year #2, we should change coaches, right?

You any kin to the Steinbrenners?

Go Vols.

Just remember, while some of us are guilty of occasionally poking these slightly off center, often quite depressed VOL fans into some comical dialogue,:whistling::) the folks who make such decisions are quite impressed with the progress being made. Jones is getting it done, dare I say it?......Brick by brick:)

I'll agree with what you said, but what Jones said isn't even laughable. It's pathetic in all honestly, imo.

I said it at the beginning and always wanted to be wrong, but I think Butch is the guy that turns the program around, but ultimately it will be his successor that makes us a national powerhouse. Still hope I'm wrong, and he might just bring in enough talent that the coaching deficiencies are masked.

Getting kind of personal with Mr. Jones aren't you? "Pathetic" is pretty rough from a guy behind a keyboard. I hear you throwing out some pretty harsh criticism but no praise for some great play calling over the last few games, months, years.

Coach's comments are always a bit lofty when describing the team but HE'S SELLING THE PROGRAM! Recruiting, selling tickets, keeping us on EPSON when we have no right to be after the Dooley years. Positivity builds a program, man. Not reactionary tantrums that fixate on a portion of plays that could have been called differently.

I'm sorry your army buddies pity you but UT is OUR (does that include you?) team and I see a better product on the field than in any time since 2007. Players AND coaching.

You keep telling people that UT's record is of no consequence when it comes to how inept Butch and his staff are but let me just ask you this:

WHAT MEASURES SUCCESS MORE THAN WINS AND LOSSES?

This team is improving. You hang out and let your friends tell you this team is no good. Wait for the next coach to make you feel warm and fuzzy. I am enjoying the he!! out of Butch and this team.

:eek:k:

Our national perception is getting better. I've noticed that more national media analysts and radio talk show hosts are starting to talk about the vols in a positive light. They are saying that we are heading in the right direction under Butch.

LMAO , That dont mean anything the call center dude and tha A's fan got this . lmaorofl.

oh goood. We played great against crappy teams. That deserves soooooo much praise. Please. We're likely to finish the regular season one game better and it's because we should beat a Vandy team that is about 200 times worse than they were last year. Please.

learn to read. I agreed with him. However, Jones says our perception is higher than ever. It's not even near that level, and for him to make such a claim is pathetic.

and I always laugh at the "tough guy behind the keyboard" remarks. We're all behind a keyboard here. So it's not any different. Want me to meet you somewhere so I can tell you my same feelings? Warning, I'm not spending the gas to drive anywhere, so you'll need to drive to Norfolk, VA for us to talk.

You've been "in the fence"? hmmmmm. :birgits_giggle:

Wow. Really? It's pathetic of our coach to claim that national perception is higher than ever? Really? Pathetic?

Seems a little harsh.

Hope you're not married, but if you are, I hope you've never told your wife she was the greatest wife in the world. By your reasoning.......that would be pathetic. Ever said you had the best parents in the world....pathetic. God forbid you ever tell anyone you have the best kids......pathetic.

Sounds a little silly now huh?

No, it's essentially impossible to really determine best wife or parents in the world. To pretend like our national perception is anywhere close to it was say in 1999, is simply pathetic.

Your reasoning sounds awfully silly though. So maybe that works for ya.

Butch is the answer! it's impatient fans like this that run off good coaches. Like all the bamers that whine when CNS only wins by 1 point. He's been here 2 YEARS!!!! my Jesus!! chill the hell out please!! I heard preseason all the experts saying we would be either 4-8 or 5-7. So, with a win over Candy, We have officially overachieved. We're getting better. be patient please:banghead2::banghead2::banghead2:

this "discussion" is comical at best, if you haven't seen improvement then you aren't looking and the last thing this program needs is another coaching change
I made this point before, but damn CBJ should be able to take three days a week off and still make progress over what Dooley accomplished! Its amazing that anyone would use Dooleys tenure as a yard stick for CBJ's progress with this team. That is one low bar to set. If just being better than Dooley is acceptable, then we deserve what we get.

We should demand a hell of a lot more than simply "being better than Dooley!" Don't get me wrong, in no way am I suggesting that CBJ be let go, but he damn well deserves to be held accountable.

Seems like judgement could start middle of next year. Met my expectations this year and I've been lenient. Got to be 7+ next year. Another year like this with the quality of inbound recruits then something very wrong. That's sad but I hope if it did happen that just SEC proven coaches are considered. These folks want wait until 2016 to see the return of 7+ wins. :):mf_surrender:

2013 - we were favored in 5 games when the lines were set by Vegas. We won 5.

2014 - we've been favored in 6 games now when the lines have been set. We will win 6 on Saturday.

Butch has done exactly what our teams talent, experience and schedule have dictated so far.

Guess what ALL THREE of those things get MUCH better next year...so guess what? I bet we'll be favored in 8 or so games next year and I BET we will win 8 or more.

Everyone chill out.

You don't know that he's not being held accountable. You don't even know what the standard is. Nobody on VN does.

As I've said 100 times.... If CDD makes a bowl in year 3 he's still the coach. I think at this point the standard is a lot lower than you would like.

You have over 19,00 posts and I'm going to wager that most of them are as childish as this one.

What WOULD make you feel better, Lombardi? You want a headset and a press pass? Get down there and show those fools how it is done? What was it that derailed YOUR coaching career, sport?

Unless Bill Belicheck is now writing under the name "volfanbill" I'm going to have to assume that you don't pay your bills by coaching.

And yes! I do feel better about beating South Carolina, Kentucky and, hopefully, Vandy! These teams have all beat us in the recent past and wins against SEC teams show that the team is improving. EVERY win matters no matter the opponent. If you don't know that than you are a loser.

So, again, what would make you feel better? Seriously? If winning games, getting more talented and exciting players and having a coaching staff work their tails off to make this team great again isn't doing it for you then enlighten me.

if you are waiting for a perfectly called game, it isn't going to happen. Coaches make mistakes. Players drop balls. Refs blow calls.

With that in mind, what more can you want than to see a group of men play as hard as they can for their school and state every week? UT is improving. Check the W column after Saturday.

LOL...love this site

Like Rick Moranis once said in Spaceballs

"I'm surrounded by a**holes!"

so you're changing the script of what I responded to bash me? Not fooling anyone.

So....

I just called out to fight by a tough guy behind a keyboard because I called him a "tough guy behind the keyboard"?

Sure. Why not! You ran out of talking points so we can have a pretend fight now. In stead of Norfolk we can meet on the moon.

I just thought you took a pretty big jump from voicing your opinion to trolling by calling Jones "pathetic".

nice try. how did I change the script?

I love how the guys who have been chucking the first stone all night start playing the victim when the get painted into a corner
