Butch Jones... How much longer

Everybody goes on and on about the challenge but AL, FL, GA, LSU, etc. Gets that play reviewed without having to challenge.

Guys i've got the best idea yet, we could get yet ANOTHER new coach, and i guarantee the team will get better immediately! No. Just stop. Butch is building Tennessee back up to par. It's his second season and him/the team have put us in position to get a bowl game after how many years?

You're drunk OP. Go home.

Mizzou had a defense that exposed our weak o-line. We stayed within one possession of a top 20 team that is leading the SEC East, even with all the mistakes.

So his poor on paper players are better than our better on paper players? Thanks for proving the point. Coaching is the difference. Pinkel has taken afterthought players and put them in position to play for a championship in the toughest conference 2 yrs in a row. He's made his Jimmy's and Joe's not recruited them and just thrown them out there. He's not Calipari.

good comparison.
I don't remember who originally said this quote:

A great coach can take his players and beat yours; he can take yours and beat his.

Somewhere, coaching ability is either an advantage or disadvantage.

Gracious.

This place is hilarious. After we miraculously beat a bad SC team in a game where, if we're being honest they lost just as much as we won, this place collectively declared we were back and you'd think we had just knocked off Alabama ranked #1. Then we beat a somewhat improved yet still bad UK team and the talk got bigger.

Now we lose to a Top 20 team with an awesome defense, who also has a great shot at winning the East, and suddenly we're back to questioning Jones?

Can this place ever be normal?
Nope.

That coach across the field from Butch last night has a ton of Jimmy's and Joe's doesnt he?

Well, only a ridiculously sound and seasoned football team who has won 8 or more straight SEC games on the road and two potential 1st round draft picks on defense.

Other than that, I guess they have a few average players......

Serious question. People will blast me as a negavol ect. But like it or not... Hes not going to return us to prominence. Hes a great recruiter but a terrible tactician. And he's just one of these guys that scared to death of life. Like the guy in the highway that slams on his brakes in the middle of an intersection when the light turns yellow. I've been in the fence about him but I'm not anymore. We've lost almost every winable game he's coached in while here. The two he won (sc) both took miraculous comebacks that never should have been required. We were firmly in control of both games in the second half before getting conservative and trying to run out the clock. Last night we saw an example of a great coach. They got the ball off a to late in the game while leading and put their foot on our throats and won.

So two questions...Who's next and how much longer before we can afford to part with Butch? Serious questions so please don't merge...

Is a dumber thread possible? No.

Also, OP praises Pinkel as great. A guy that has never won a championship.

Some ripe stupidity there.

All truth, but he inherited a team from Meyer. Just like Arkansas was 1 year removed from either 9 or 10 wins so...

Bielema was Arkansas's third coach in as many years. Most of the players from that team were gone.

It's not the change so much as how many Kiffy ran off. I guess he had a plan. But chasing off kids the way he did was insane.
Then bring in CDD who took the last year off.
It's hard to believe we got this depleted of talent. It's almost like both were trying to hurt the university for years to come.
Nobody can win starting the youth we have to. It does feel like next year won't be any better but all this early playing time will pay off.

You must've missed the play last night where the Vols were set up in field goal formation and the holder threw a td pass out of it. That was pretty good.

That was a great call and it worked. The problem is it takes more than one gutsy call per game. We needed him to get aggressive at the end of the first half. Use a to when when they were facing 2nd and 30 from their own 10. That would have given the ball with Damn near 3 minutes to go. Letting the clock run out is almost the same as a turn over.
Butch also made one gutsy call against SC in the first half. Dobbs kept on fourth and scored. But then faced with the same exact scenario in the second half he twice elected to kick a fg. We missed both and it took a straight out miracle for us to get back in that game. It shouldn't have even been close. Last night that game was there for the taking. And their coach took it

He's good. Not great. He seems to have a bit of the Richt Syndrome where they lose a game the years they are good to teams they shouldn't (blew the SC game last year, IU this year).

I'll take a stab at it. I think we go sometime like 7-5 next year and again the following season. Then we have to part with him. At this point he is the decision of our ad so he's going to be as supportive as possible. After that I just hope there is an up and comer talented guy willing to take the job. My ultimate dream guy would be if Peyton Manning was done with his playing career and interesting in coaching. But as for right now a guy like Patterson or briles would have made a better coach than Butch.
One thing that totally sucks is that the ad is just given total control to make this decision. It should be done by committee. And include a guy like Fulmer. We brought in this new ad that has dedicated his life to bama and has no experience making these types of decisions. When a company chooses a ceo... There is a whole team of people involved in the decision

You seriously want a committee of guys like Cheek having more input than they already have in coaching decisions?

Wait until these fr are JR and Srs will be a much better team. Mizz defense is pretty good and was really prepared for dobbs and co. Our OL is weak against good defenses and it showed. Be patient and hoping to enjoy stomping vandy.

Arkansas vs Tenn comparison isn't the same my man. Arky was a good progran under Petrino. When was the last time Tenn was? Arkansas didnt have quite as far to go as Kiffin/Dooley left it.

OP = jumping the gun a little. However, another 5 or 6 win season next year will concern me greatly about the ability of our coordinators and player development. I would expect 7 to 8 wins cause you can be damn sure Saban, Bill Snyder, Gary Pinkel, Dan Mullen etc.. could get that or better out of this roster plus our new signees next year.

Exactly! How many Kiffin thugs lasted more than two years? Also we had 18 seniors recognized last night. How many contribute on game day? We are headed in the right direction. Like Missouri we need consistency in Knoxville!

After 5 years at Mizzou, Pinkel had 30 total wins. I will assume you can do that math.

So keep up with the nonsense.

Can you imagine the final score if dooley/Bray had been leading the charge and taking a pounding all night like Dobbs?
